GE to announce manufacturing plant closings in GE Power

May 2018 announcement will come for all to here the plant closings. Greenville and Upstate NY plants will be hit hardest. Alstom will be safe and pick up most of the work. They have 7 bunkers and state of the art facility and campus. Cleaner facility and shorter cycle time.

Smart move considering the way I see management treats the workforce on the floor. Then they sit in the office and laugh about it. I am glad I retired recently I have never seen such chaos in this work place. Shop workers are so stressed and depressed then managers walk up and treat them like inhuman. Soon GE Power will have zero employees in the states.

Not so fake people...GE Power in Salem laid off 15% of its workforce this past Tuesday, and an announcement came today that 216 are being laid off in Greenville, SC! It’s just the beginning of things to come. The business pundits keep saying that GE needs to break up because investors are unhappy that it’s still a conglomerate, and that the Power, Gas and Turbine businesses continue to struggle. Stock is down to $14...looks bad for GE.

Greenville's manufacturing is going to end, and they will announce it soon enough. Some salaried engineering positions will continue for a while, along with product testing. But manufacturing will be leaving. Those who scoff will be crying soon enough.

They wouldn’t ever shut us down. That’s what Bloomington said too. 3000 hourly and business was booming. Now it’s a shell of a building. Don’t think it can’t happen. No idea if the rumor is true or not. But the idea that it can’t happen is unrealistic.

this is the worst piece of fake news I have read. It even includes a fake pdf document. Sounds to me like you need to find something better to occupy your retirement.

In this case, the IRS appears to mean the Industrial Relations Service, in the UK. Although I'm not sure their rejection is any more binding than fake news would be...

And everyone said GE would not sell Plastics back in the day. It was huge! It was the house Jack built. GE sold and is still stuck with huge empty office and manufacturing buildings.

@1tnr that's cute. I bet the GE Transportation plant in Erie thought they were too big to close, too.

I don't work in power, no idea if this is true or not. IF however you believe your place is 'to big to close ' , try to meet some vets from lightning or appliances. Ask how that worked out for them..

It's also interesting that the IRS rejected cuts totalled only 4500 of the 12000 total that must be cut.

I know firsthand from the condition of both Greenville and Schenectady that both of these facilities are aging and would cost a fortune to fix all of the issues they have. It would be more cost effective to shut them down than to bring them up to modern standards, especially for operating in a declining industry. Having been to Birr and Belfort, these places are in much better condition and would make more business sense to keep than to throw away, as they shouldn't require nearly as much ongoing upkeep. Sorry, but the writing is on the wall for GE in NY and SC.

You’ve got a better chance seeing hell freeze over buddy. Greenville and Schenectady are to large of a plant to close. You’ll see small plants close and the work move to those facilities. Stop eating the Tide pods and wake up to realality

The IRS can’t stop it. GE can pay the fine and proceed. It’s over for ex-Alstom.

GE's proposal to cut power jobs in Europe has been rejected by the European Works Council (IRS). GE can't afford to keep both sets of facilities open anymore, so closing down SDY and GVL is the only effective course of action they will be able to take. Dismiss the original poster at your own risk.

So why did they bring an Alstom turbine from Germany to build in Greenville? You should just enjoy your retirement and stop spreading rumors

This is the stupidest thing I’ve read in a long time. No work is being transferred to Alstom sites. In fact GE is laying off 12000, mostly European, employees in Q1.

This post is designed simply to incite fear, that’s all. The OP is a bitter idiot.
