Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Was Age a Factor

All the folks I know of being impacted had a bit of silver in their hair. Certainly, there were various ages. And it could just be that I am a bit older myself and therefore interact with an older crowd. Knowing that PepsiCo would love to rid itself of its pension liabilities I have to ask myself how much of the decision process actually focused in on pension eligible employees? Tenure equals higher salaries, higher pensions, and higher healthcare.... It’s rough getting old.

@1qtj - I really do hope you saved those conversations from those HR reps because I know a lot of attorneys that would love to get their hands on them!!

Yes; they are notorious for taking advantage of old timers by sweet talking them with promises of job security and promotion and then pushing them aside when they've outlived their usefulness. Truly a shameful company.

The 10 I know of at HQ are all over 50! I always said this company age discriminates.

-uhr speaks the truth. I’ve had friends in HR confirm directly that they seek out enough additional below 40 employees to avoid lawsuit for ageism. Again it’s all about pension reduction.

Those who lost several under 40 members from their team, it doesn’t mean age targeting isn’t happening. There are some areas of PepsiCo where a strategic move was made to cut out a specific function or reduce it drastically. IT is an example.

Notice how whenever someone mentions discrimination (which there is plenty of at Pepsi) you have some paid HR troll come in.

"But No!!! I'm le---an, Indian, female, blah blah blah, and I got cut too"

Keep trying to bury the truth, some of us will be as outspoken as possible about it.

Yes age was not the ONLY factor, but A LOT of older mostly over 40s men were let go. They let just enough of the other groups so there won't be a class action lawsuit.

I know at least 3 people I worked with at FLHQ under 50 who were cut. Age may be factor, but not the only one.
