GE Greenville has been suffering from extreme low morale. Manufactured turbines have repeated errors and quality “escaping defects” costing large amount of cash to repair. This cost continues to make already bad cash flow problems even worse. Yes, additional 1st Quarter Layoffs were discussed and this discussion was leaked out. The good news is this was only a discussion and there are currently no additional layoff plans 1st Quarter. My fear is repeated costly quality problems and design challenges are costing far more than we are financially able to recover. Pakistan has moved to SIEMENS as their preferred power vendor after the challenges hit their country. GE Greenville needs to shed more people. The current goal (plan A) is natural attrition. We all know what plan B will be. Always has been, always will be GE’s Plan. Because of GE’s decades of layoffs, it’s not a question of if, but when the next one will be. We continue to feel this in our gut everyday we stay.

I’ve been working at ge for over 20 years
I’m a hourly worker I’ve done many different jobs each one moved me up to higher pay grades. Ge is exceptional in safety and innovative to make the best quality parts for the customers
Hopefully they'll layoff more of the kind of people that will post here.
Being part of GE means having to be young, flexible, highly intelligent and cutting edge with regard to performance not because these are water marks of a great company but because you'll need these traits when they show you the door.
Because manufacturing is booming, I'd advise all Manufacturing Engineers at GE Greenville to look elsewhere! They do not care about you engineers!
@5khi, the negativity posted here is not the cancer. It’s a Symptom of the pseudo-intellectual cancerous leadership culture of GE.
If your looking to jump ship in Greenville I’d do so now. The job market in the Greenville area is booming. There are tons of local companies hiring and they are eating up GE employees. Get it while the getting is good. Ge will leave you on your a-- and not even think twice about. They don’t call Krause the closer for nothing. His track record as a leader is a disgrace. It’s a shame that GE lets folks like him ruin a good business. We have lost so much talent do to the way he makes decisions.

Now that employees have lost all confidence in GE it's just a matter of time until GE faces bankruptcy. I doubt Warren Buffet will bail us out again from bankruptcy.
The reason GE's missing all it's revenue and profit targets is because the repair area is quiet. That's the spot on the floor where all the money is made, where GE can charge $100k for $10k worth of work.
The Greenville shop floor will be even quieter before it gets better. It will get better with all new people.
The GVL shop floor is eerily quiet, even in the repair area. You know more cuts are coming, best get a move on now. It's easier to find another job when you still have a job.
BS is all GE is. Ask their customers.

GE Greenville will be forced to execute additional layoffs. Still too fat for such low orders and market conditions. Not to mention the high cost of dumb mistakes the manufacturing plant keeps making. That’s what GE gets for putting financial sourcing people in plant manager positions. They just don’t get reality and never will.
Retirement might be better than layoff and loss of accrued pension. After all, other companies in trouble have done so, and GE will eventually have to. The working environment is bad enough that some are hoping for a severance package. Others think they can hold on for a better early retirement deal; many are still in denial about GE's dire condition and think it won't affect them.
You said the good news is that layoffs were only a 'discussion'...yet you know inside plan B is already on the table. They won't get the numbers they need from attrition, and everyone knows it. Doesn't matter what business you're in. Why would anybody retire at this point?
