Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Seimens, MHI, P&W, HoneyW, RR?

So, which of these companies are hiring? Or are we all driving off of a cliff?

I came across this site when looking for news on layoffs. I've been at Pratt and GE. I left on my own and now work for a small shop that supplies these guys. Pratt is a different beast than GE. Military mindset, you take orders, and don't you dare question what you are told to do. I had enough after 4 years and entered the high stakes game played by GE. It was about crushing it everyday and if you didn't you were gone. I wouldn't go back to either place but still have buddies there. If you get your walking papers, take some time to think about what you want to do. Smaller shops offer great perks and benefits. I took a 20% pay cut and I have never been happier. You can't put a price tag on seeing your family everyday. Good luck guys.

I work in P&W Engineering. They slightly over hired for the year (~4000 in 2017), so frozen hiring for this year. But there are plans to restart hiring in Jan 2018. However, it wont be as aggressive as in 2017 though.

@1ucw - MHI is not laying off. It's not hiring either, but as of now it's not laying off. Where exactly do you get your info from?

Yes power industry is slow for now, but GE was and is grossly mismanaged. Reason for GE layoffs is not just power industry related....it is mainly the result of decades of poor decisions by management at ALL levels...from low-level engineering managers to CEO.

Pratt and Whitney and UTC Aerospace Systems are hiring in many locations in the USA. Good luck with your job search.

P&W is still hiring. But good luck with that. They know the GE situation very well and are cherry picking.

Aviation businesses are hiring, to some extent; Power (Seimens, MHI...) are laying off; O&G...no growth.

Siemens is laying off in Power Generation, about 1,900 in the US. RR in the energy sector is owned by Siemens.

At some level the market is the market. Of course hubris can expand its effects.

Yeah, I've applied to those "hiring like crazy" companies and guess what? They ain't.

Welcome to the days of BS and more BS, where companies hide layoffs, lie about numbers, and pretend they're hiring when they aren't.

Yeah, they do, because a job posting gets picked up by the Govt algos which count it as a real job and add it to their rosy economy reports as "proof" all is well.

Good luck with the job search, you're about to have a real eye opener as to the true state of affairs in the economy.

I've seen a recruiter on Linkedin comment that P&W is "hiring folks like crazy" in Connecticut. Good luck in your search.
