SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – General Electric has begun what could amount to hundreds of layoffs.
Layoffs were something that GE employees have been bracing for and is the worst kind of news right before the holidays.
NEWS10 ABC’s Anya Tucker says the divisions affected are on-shore wind and power. At least 40 people were let go Thursday morning.
This may be just the beginning with a much larger U.S. reduction strategy within GE. There were three smaller previous rounds of layoffs this past year but that this would be the toughest with the possibility of hundreds being laid off.
There have been rumors over the past couple of weeks about layoffs.
When NEWS10 ABC reached out to GE we were told that these were just rumors.
GE has not released an official announcement or statement regarding the layoffs.
