Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE Greenville Layoff Week

Many GE Greenville employees will learn this week if they will be jobless. Salaried personnel will be notified of their reapplication results. Engineering will start getting the infamous “confidential discussion” meeting request. Most, if not all, MAU employees are gone. Greenville hourly needs to brace themselves 1Q2018. Be ready. Get off your backside and do something to prepare.

You mean there are real engineers left in Greenville? Not just managers and Edison’s? When GE stops letting people shuffle off to different jobs every 2 years and hold them accountable for the crap they leave in their wake, things might get better. Edison’s get a scant 6 months “learning” in one area before moving to the next, while having mentors in place to ease their passage and they don’t ever have to fix their mistakes. Such an insane way to do business.

@2rsx you just made that up. The meeting referenced below is for the whole team. Again, try to keep up.

Usually GE layoffs starts with a meeting invite with a manager. Who happens to have an HR Representative in his/her office waiting on you.

@2lvz no, this is a meeting with our E-band manager, not with HR. Try to keep up!

That makes this post FAKE NEWS since this post stated we would get a "CONFIDENTIAL DISCUSSION" meeting and not and "UPDATE" Meeting. Oh well, the end result is the same.

So they changed the famous "Confidential Discussion" meeting invite with "Update" meeting invite?

Got an Outlook notice for an “update” meeting with our EB in Greenville (an Engineering Executive). The notice came out of the blue so I suspect this will be our head’s up that some of us are going to be let go.

@1dt. GE is paranoid of lawsuits so legal is taking longer than expected to review the layoff documents. Greenville manufacturing already knows the reduction goal and should know by Friday of this week. Greenville engineering will be within a couple weeks. I do not know SCHY plans but my guess would be just as drastic as Greenville if not worse.

I’m actually shocked that there have not been big engineering layoffs in Greenville and SCHY yet. Was gonna be end of Q2, then Q3, now Q4 and there has been no real discussion about it. We expect it, we speculate about it, leadership alludes to it, but no real actions.

@1eiv yes, if you want the severance you’ll need to understand how it works and sign documents.

If I get one of those meeting requests, is there even any reason to show up, since I'll already know what it's about? Why not just set an out of office message until the last day?

Some of the lazier GE d---beats are hoping for a TLO. These low life’s that don’t want to work are part of the culture problem.

So, GE is going to keep hourly next year and let them sweep floors and cut grass since they don’t have hardly any manufacturing volume?

When are the engineering layoffs planned?

Everybody knows layoffs are coming.

MAU is the staffing/temp agency the Greenville Plant started using instead of hiring direct GE employees.
