Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Early activation 11/22 for 11/23 7pm & 8pm

Why on earth would sears signs be early activated so late in the day on Wednesday since nobody is going to do an over nighter Wednesday going into Thanksgiving or am I reading it wrong?

To the last poster, I should have clarified my comments. The commissioned salespeople throughout our Sears store do act as cashiers when needed and as backup cashiers throughout the store but they do not do all the other tasks the support staff does. We were one of the first stores converted over two years ago. And yes it is a BIG time pain in the a--.

Softlines Support and Hardlines Support are seperate from the commission associates in my store. We were converted back in February. We have softlines support which handles signing, cashiering, resets, receipts, etc. Hardlines Support do the same. Hardlines support handle cashier and MCA duties. The HA, Mattress, Fine Jewelry, Footwear and HI associates are commisioned and do not do those duties. Our CAC lead was also eliminated back in February and so was our Operations ASM. Its a pain in the a--.

The mcas and salespeople do the cashiering. This is the future of the Sears stores. It's happening on a gradual basis through out the company in various stores. After the first of the year the process will start excelerating. It's part of the transformation vision and downsizing and consolidation of personnel and a move to cut costs. Look at the Sears job openings. You see more and more openings for "cashier and softlines support" and "cashier and hardlines support." After the first of the year you will start to see more opening for "sales support" as a general position which encompasses cashiering and mcas. I was told this by both a district and regional HR manager. This is already happening in our store and a few others in our district. WE aren't happy about it and the commissioned salespeople don't like it because they have missed some sales particularly the mattress salespeople.

@sfw how do you not have cashiers in your store?

Our sears store eliminated the cashier lead along time ago

How on earth do you function without cashiers

We are a true transformation store. We don't have cashiers. Unfortunately, after the first of the year a lot of other Sears stores won't have cashiers either. The CAC Lead position is being eliminated as per our DM.

@oqj that s---s that there is only 2 people to sign in your store.

Wonder why they didn’t have some of the cashiers trained to sign for the holidays

Hopefully you won’t be in store too late early Thanksgiving Day

The early activation she I saw only has 7pm and 8pm for early activation ugh

We wondered the same thing at our Sears store. Our signing team is only 2 of us since staffing has been cut to the bare bones so our store manager is going to have us start at 4:00 and they will do overrides till 7:00 or until the sale prices kick in. Our store manager is a great guy so he will stay and help us after the store closes. The last 2 years we haven't gotten out until 2:30 am Thanksgiving morning. He said not this year which is why he has us starting at 4:00 and he is going to help. We are also doing a split shift by coming in on Wednesday morning to set up the signs that start on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd.
