Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Firing if you do jobs on your off days?

My store recently fire 2 employees because they do contractor work on there time off. Any other store doing this? I thought what you do on your time is your business? Some people struggle to pay bills and this is there other source of income/

Funny thing is, the rouge self-installer employee would likely do a better job in a much more timely manner than the sh--show that has become Lowes Installs. Right now its a 6 WEEK WAIT to have a freaking STOCK STORM DOOR installed!!! Evolving....

If your not using your discount for clients, or soliciting customers on work time, they cant prevent you from doing side work. If they try to, sue them for "restraint of trade".

We had a guy at my store that would walk around soliciting business for his side business instead of helping customers or doing work. He also bought things for these customers and charged them full price. They fired him for this.

Our store terminated a couple of specialists in the past for this very reason. One was installing on the side telling customers he could install whatever they purchased for a cheaper price and he could also do it sooner than lowes installer could.

The other one was using his employee discount when buying merchandise for his "business on the side" knowing all along that you can only use it for personal use.

Unfortunately if you do anything contracting wise and Lowe’s also offers it too it will be considered a conflict of interest and they can let you go. Plus any reason they can find to let FT associates go to be replaced by PT is a win for them.

I am willing to bet is was one if not both of the reasons you listed. I am sure while they were at work that they were getting clients and buying material using discounts..

Not an issue doing seperate contractor work outside of lowe's. It become an issue if they are soliciting lowe's customers instead of using lowe's installers and/or using their employee discount to purchase material for their contract jobs. Then it becomes a conflict of interest.
