Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Enbridge’s deteriorating culture

I am extremely worried about how Enbridge’s deteriorating culture, and the secrecy that prevails, are impacting the company’s need to stay focused on safety and integrity.

The Marshall spill was largely the result of compounded cultural issues, beginning with the fact that certain control room supervisors wouldn’t take seriously the concerns of a certain operator who saw a problem. When the operator (a female in a male dominated work environment) alerted the supervisors to the problem, her make bosses dismissed her concerns, and, instead increased the pressure in the pipe.

After two years of brutal attacks, Enbridge’s culture has been weakened to an all-time low (lots of infighting, no loyalty, no one shares information anymore), and arrogance runs high among the company’s leaders.

Such a cultural both creates the perfect environment for a major incident, and weakens employees’ ability to respond to a crisis.

And we’re leaving the fate of the Great Lakes to this?

It really scares me.

Made into a thread from @Q1Tmm9l-1xqy. Completely on point.

Great video indeed. Recommended to Enbridge directors, VP's and up.

Here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmyZMtPVodo

Enbridge's leaders need to regain their humanity as they have already lost it.

Interesting discussion and great YouTube video. I don’t know any of the ELT either, but as a human being, I can’t imagine that any of them has any real friends.

I don’t know Al or any of the ELT personally but I deeply distrust my own VP and Director. I have watched them easily sacrifice others and know they will just as easily sacrifice me when the time comes. My days of feeling safe are over. I do not stick my neck out anymore. I stay on only for whatever remaining paycheques I can earn and the severance. I don’t know why Al and the others think they have improved Enbridge by fostering this widespread feeling.

I think there is a general lack of trust in AM and senior management. After countless layoffs people just go to work to collect their paycheck and wait for the next round. This lack of trust prevents cooperation and will stop OEF from succeeding.

There is always mention of more synergies to be had with investors. Clearly the board and executives are running the company with shareholders in mind and do not care about the employees. The leadership team needs to watch "Why good leaders make you feel safe | Simon Sinek" on youtube. This is clearly not the case in the company and it is unsustainable until it is. All it takes is one disgruntled CCO operator who doesn't trust management to create the next multi billion dollar loss. Look at BP, they never recovered.

I wonder if shareholders know the state of affairs within the company and that's why the stock price is down. Given the price I think it is only fair that AM takes a 10% pay cut (or more) with the rest of the employees. He should be feeling the financial pain instead of benefiting from it.
