Thread regarding Follett layoffs

The squeeze

HO already sent out the directive to severely trim payroll in November. Do you expect layoffs as well?

Change your focus from whining and feeling sorry for yourself to increasing sales. Increased sales equals more payroll.

Post schedules 2 weeks out but then they cut your budget. ft needs to be scheduled at least 35hrs but then budget doesn't cover the 1 ft hourly position in your store.

managers=cashiers. when your store is open 60hrs a week but budget only gives you enough for 37 hrs of payroll do you close? shorten hours?

I have written, on this site, exceptionalism is foolish hubris. Everyone who works for a living has an expiration date, at follett. Even if you survive the coming cuts, you'll be more stressed, have more work to do, you'll still be working on a campus who's faculty and leadership don't care. Why are you staying?

Yes, in a business where the paradigm is changing. closing unprofitable stores is the next step.

For those who remember the good old days. one of the Follett corner stones was Profits are Essential! For the company, the used textbook market was always had the greatest ROI. How long can you sustain a business with a 50 million dollar headquarters where the sustaining product is over priced spirit wear?

Look for a drop to 32 hr/week. Yes, a 20% pay reduction but still ft with benefits. We will expect you to do 40 hours of work in those 32 hours. Be happy, at least you have a job.

I would. There have been layoffs every November for several years. I think it’s why they postponed the review deadline until the end of the month. No use giving employees reviews if they are not going to be here in a few weeks

They r taking the ax to hard working devoted employees. We r already down to the bone, I don't see how we can cut further without going down to 1 person 10 hrs a day. Can't do that, no overtime pay! No breaks! 2 people can't do it all! Yes I realize I may be next.

From everything I have read in the emails being sent out, ie "by any means necessary" it sounds like if the stores do not bring the payroll down, the HO will do it for them. I could see some positions being eliminated or full time cut back to 34-35 hours a week.

I don't see how they can cut anymore. They have cut to the bone. Although the ivory tower is close enough to their bonus that they may use short term thinking and do more layoffs. They want their bonus.
