Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Bass Pro merger closing on September 25

We finally have a date. After all the speculation, Cabela's acquisition will be finalized on September 25. Pretty sure that this will bring its own round of layoffs with it. Hopefully I am wrong, but mergers always bring the reduction in operating costs with them, and employees are usually the ones to pay the price.

I heard they recently laid off 500 employees the first week in February '18.

I also heard that Johnny Morris is enjoying ruining Sidney Nebraska.

I don't think Cabela's HQ in Canada is not affected by this merger. Bass pro is taking advantage of their HQ their and probably retain their employees.

I like the guy that says: Let's all work to out out a message to Bass Pro you are welcome to Sidney."

Sorry can't stop laughing...that's like catching someone breaking into your house and welcoming them to stay a while.

Wait to the carnage begins...then tell me how you feel about BP.

This site is the last thing you are going to be worried about

Not a business major but it wouldn't surprise me that Bp would close overperforming stores and job cuts at Corp. Don't know how cities with both stores that are close together will fare.

I have to agree with a couple people/posts/comments within this tread. Are people serious when they think this gossip site really had any impact on the citizens of Sidney, the housing market in Sidney or the way Cabela's conducted business???? Give me a break!!! Cabela's and Sidney are the way they are because of poor management!!!! Basically the town of Sidney let Cabela's call the shots and the city budget was/is out of control. Cabela's as a business has been poorly ran, holding on to the catalog thought process, unwilling to stay current/relevant and during the gun run , that's all they could do. Let's let firearms and ammo carry the business! Plus more rumors floating the halls and break rooms vs what you will find on this site. I believe some people in Sidney don't realize what is going on in Sidney/Cabela's, they think everything is fine and dandy. They are looking to blame a website, give me a break!

FACT: Jim and D--k discussed selling the company two years before D--k died.

They put out feelers and Viola...they sold the company. Not hard to understand.

I love how much credit people will give a website called "thelayoff.com" and the supposed affect it had on the housing market. Many, many news agencies were reporting that Cabela's was being bought out by Bass Pro. Cabela's reported on their poor earnings to Wall Street. Business was bad and the future was uncertain. Doesn't anyone think THOSE THINGS may have had a bigger impact on the housing market and the future of Sidney compared to a random website called "thelayoff.com"???

Wow, what is the problem with poster @PeKakzR-1ofb?

Is it really necessary to insult another poster? Or, could it be, your own insecurity?

Just because you may be employed at corporate, doesn't make you any smarter than a person who works in a DC or in one of the stores.

Lets keep on topic and hold off on the insults. It solves nothing.

I agree 100%. Let's stop ranting about old posts.

I simply do not understand why there has to be so much negativity and attacks on this site - there are a few things that are very clear - Bass Pro bought Cabela's and it will be closed in under two weeks. Bass Pro will make changes to corporate - the outdoor industry is not beg enough to keep Sidney at full or even 10% of the work force - simple math - over 5 billion to purchase and they really are not getting anything they don't have beyond the name and a competitor who is sinking. With that reality, we all must, should is probably a better term as many will continue to deny - move forward and beyond this mess. Life will be much more positive and better beyond this mess - everyone that I have spoken with sho has made the move has said so. This site is invaluable for keeping the employees informed on the real scoop - imagine not having an ability to post and share - this would have hit us like a ton of bricks as our leadership would have never shared anything - we all know that. Let's all move on and create a new reality!

The DC has a high turn over rate and has any of the posters worked out there. Or did you stay in the nice cushy Corp. office?

If you had a brain you could have got a cushy job at corporate and worked a 40 hour a week job...instead you were in that hell hole of a DC. That explains a lot about your communication skills. Let me guess strong back...weak brain.

The 8k says

The parties expect to close the Merger and transactions contemplated by the Framework Agreement, dated as of April 17, 2017, by and among the Company, WFB, Synovus and Capital One Bank (USA), National Association, a national banking association, on September 25, 2017.

To me that sounds like they are going to close on the sale of the bank on Sept 25.

The reason Cabela's is trying to hire and the D.C. Working 7 days a week, is due to the fact that Cabela's is still open for business. Yes sales have dropped off significantly and people/employees have jumped ship. But the fact remains Cabela's is still open for business. So they need people to continue to keep things going, regardless of the upcoming buyout by BP. Also, if that rumor is true, no the 40 or so BP employees coming to take over Sidney, they don't have super human powers. By the time they are in place, the majority of task will have been moved to Springfield/BP corporate office.

The words mean nothing...merger...buyout.

Bass Pro put up the money...Cabela's will be de-listed from the stock exchange...Johnny Morris will be in charge...corporate headquaters will be in Springfield..my guess is Cabelas name will disappear over the next few years.

A merger involves the mutual decision of two companies to combine and become one entity; it can be seen as a decision made by two "equals". ... A takeover, or acquisition, on the other hand, is characterized by the purchase of a smaller company by a much larger one.
