Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Levis wants upfront $$$

I heard yesterday from a co worker saying that Levis doesn't want to supply Sears unless they pay their money upfront. She said her ASM told her in a meeting that the whole crew needs to push hard to not lose Levis. I didn't see a thread anywhere thought I open it and enlighten and see if anyone else has heard about the situation with Levis maybe knows a little bit more info about it.

First, there is nothing that any store level employee can do to keep a vendor. You could sell a million dollars of Levi's in your store and it would not make a difference. Second, there is no way any store level employee would know anything about a vendor contract. those contracts are negotiated at the corporate level and the terms and conditions are highly secret. Imagine if Levi's knew what the contract terms were for another brand and how much of a percentage the other company was making or the terms of payment. It would be a battle for better terms. Not something any company wants just anyone to know.

@2swe In my current store this wouldn't be part of the morning rallly but something the softlines ASM would say to the MCAs and maybe cashiers. Or the softlines lead, who we still have, might say it. The info would come from a manager only meeting & then make its way around.

I don't think this is the type of message that would be given in a meeting if we're talking about store meetings. I could be wrong because I obviously haven't attended every meeting that has ever occurred in every store but back when I worked for sears they were more like pep rallies than anything. That or we were all being grilled about our metrics performance.

@2rlb information trickles down. Many folks have worked together for so many years and talk.

Even an ASM isn't going to have direct knowledge of buying arrangements. People are always spreading rumors

Sears may sell a lot of Levi's but Levies wants to be paid for all those Levi's. After the storm , Suppliers probably more worried

Actually if LP did their jobs and didnt let shoplifters walk out with levis then they would make a profit. Putting ink tags on these jeans doesn't stop them from walking out the doors with ten or more pairs. We do have LP at our store but im pretty sure this scenario is the case for a majority, if not all sears stores. So this is probably another reason for them wanting money upfront but, who can blame them.

The associates at my store would be told something like that. I haven't heard anything about Levis but it sounds reasonable. To attempt to show that Sears sells a lot of levis so levis stays with Sears.

How many nationally recognized brand names are still at Sears?

@1itm Exactly as the other 2 posted this is coming from an ASM in charge of softlines I don't see why she would lie to them. I just wanted to share some news I wouldn't make up some gossip this is coming from a reliable source.

Sounds legit to me. They probably think that if the store associates (maybe more specifically softline associates) up sell more Levi jeans they'll have enough money to pay them back or maybe convince the supplier that they are selling well enough to stall out on paying them.

"he said her ASM told her in a meeting that the whole crew needs to push hard to not lose Levis"

How exactly would a store associate have any influence whatsoever over whether or not Levi decided to stop supplying to Sears... ?

Like some random store associate would be given such information, get real. Sounds like more gossip and talk.
