Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

EOI request?

Can you ask to be laid off when there aren't any planned? I'd walk away tomorrow or transition out over a several months if offered a package similar to those granted over the last couple of years.

My guess is that this would be rejected outright and my life would be miserable after asking. Anyone heard of this actually working?

Do what I did in October when I successfully got offered a package. I farted in the elevator in front of my boss.

The best way to get a severance package is to become a poor performing employee. I know this does not make sense, but our management lives in "opposite land".

Not likely, unless you can offer something to justify the payout, like sticking around and finishing up something critical before leaving. If I knew you were miserable and wanted to leave, I'd just let you walk away, or provide the bare minimum package.

The alternative is you hang on until VCIP & RSU payout in March and resign. Don't walk away with nothing! Can't be that bad that you can't hang on for a few more months?

There is no information if there is going to be an EOI offered. If you want to leave, go for it.

Beg to stay! Say you can't imagine working any where else and make this is known to as high a manager you can get face time with. You will be a dead man walking after that.

Works in any industry for any person over 25.

@1lrk:

That's what EOI is, isn't it? You think those that "put their hands up" when allowed want to stay, or are or willing to just resign instead of being given a package? Not everyone who asks for a package gets one, but that's how about 90% of those let go over the last 3 years got out.

The point of an EOI option is to incentivise people who are near retiring or ready to go to allow those who want to stay or are critical to the business to stay. There's no guarantee on the remuneration, but it's better than having dead wood hanging about, collecting a salary, and undermining the business.

So, you have decided to leave the company already and want a big fat check to do it? Just go away already.

If you are in Finance or report upward through the CFO do not volunteer for severance. The different EVP's treat volunteers differently (there is no consistent policy) and only bad things will happen to you. If you hate your job now, see what happens when your leader knows you want to leave.

Maybe an extended leave of absence is the answer
