Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Immelt’s empty jet that followed him around.

I was layed off / lost my GE job after busting my can for GE all while the top SOB traveled in a private jet with another empty jet following him? So glad I’m not at GE anymore. The most unethical disrespected company on the planet!

The story is embarrassing as it is, if their is any respect for GE this man had, he should return the company for all the costs throughout his term. He should never be allowed to make any public speech's or even held another office.

@POibx4v-1gkm, Unfortunately the people you describe survived the layoff in March. The "Work-Life-Balance" Millennials and many others came in every day after 8:00 AM. They always took two hour lunches because of their gym visit and campus walks. They had to play their mid afternoon volleyball and softball games. and always left around 4:00 (4:30 at the latest). Excessive vacations, maternity leaves, child sick at home (weekly) and world travel is a way of life for these spoiled brats. They are all still working for GE because they are in a tight network of buddies that always survive. The hardest workers bust their tushes thinking that is what will save them. But it never does. The only thing that matters at GE is if you are connected to the buddies (Technical Leaders, Managers, etc). Many do nothing but attend meetings and perfect their "gift of gab" reported on this site by many posters. They produce NOTHING and are convinced they are "essential" because their buddy manager or technical leader told them so. One manufacturing engineer had 11 weeks of vacation even prior to the permissive vacation program started because nobody tracked it. Yes, these parasites remain onsite. But they're sweating and stressed now because they know their job is at risk and they have nothing real to offer any employer outside GE's imaginary world. Imagination at GE (not work).

@POibx4v-1rcy, Do you still think this was a blatant lie? That GE coolaid is not good for you. Stop drinking so much of it. LOL.

Don’t forget about all the daily helicopter rides out to Crotonville for his excercise workouts when he was not jet setting. This guy burned more aviation fuel than the military.

Glad I could help pay for this with years of all my sacrificial dedication, hard work, and lost family time, just to be laid off. Not performance based.

Senior execs knew this storm was coming along time ago, but did nothing to prevent it except ride the gravy train to the very last stop and ensure themselves of safe, profitable exits.

Thankfully, there is a much better life AFTER GE!

Empty jet for the empty suit.

Considering that Aviation can't even fulfill its commitments for new engine orders, he might have had a good reason to always travel with a spare set.

Folks, this is rediculous. There was no reason to fly two jets to anyplace just to have a backup. I am glad he got ratted out. Where was our board? This was acceptable ? For anyone to think this a good use of our company money, then you clearly do not understand " run a company like you own it"

How the hell did this clown get a free pass for 16 years?

I do not believe any financial number GE publishes. GE is very sensitive about numbers such as private jet expense so GE’s creative accountants break up the cost and play the shell game as usual. Those numbers are little numbers but BIG lies.

Not to defend for the execs but $258,000 and $75,000 aren't big numbers for a year's worth of flight?

Did Jack do this? Everyone else cheapest flights.

Not personal (or petty) to point out the excesses of the former CEO.

It is true - 2 jets!

Why was he so concerned with a mechanical delay? Was the jet equipped with GE engines?

True, he had an empty jet follow him to reduce the chance of an inconvenient delay if the jet he was in experienced a mechanical delay. Both were fully stocked with Cherry Coke. His favorite soft drink.

Many of those layed off were work-aholics that worked weekends, holidays, and sacrificed vacations to meet critical deadlines. The layoff last March was not a performance based layoff.

At least he was a little ashamed of wasting he jet money. He told the flight crew not discuss the empty jet and parked in separate locations on the tarmac to reduce attention.

Obviously a disgruntled former employee, blaming GE rather than themselves for letting the company down and milking the clock until they packed up and went home at 3 PM most days.
