Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Can you ask for you job back?

I was a top performer making $185k base. I was cut 4 months ago. I know my former team is hiring. If I reach out to the mgr to ask for my previous job, what are the chances that I will get it back? Is it a good idea, or the dumbest move?

Cisco is going the IBM and HP route. What is their value add in a Cloud world where they aren't a Cloud provider? Seems like they majorly missed the boat and are taking it out on their employees.

Cisco is no longer the company that John built and successfully ran for 25 years. It's a whole new management team that is being driven to transition to a software company without a clear vision as to how. Given that, Wall St. and the BOD are pushing hard on the top line #s while driving down costs (aka, # of employees). Net, they don't really value employees beyond engineers and sales people. Word has it that anyone over 40 is being systematically drummed out regardless of position or performance. So, go back if you want to be laid off again in 12 mos. It's no longer a fun place to work.

Actually one guy here in SJ tried to ask for his old job back after he got laid off. He called the manager who was in a team meeting with his employees in a conference room. The manager put him on speaker-phone. And we all listened-in as the guy begged (demanded at times) to get his old job. Desperate people do desperate things I guess.

Yes, you can ask for YOUR job back. But only if you know the difference between "you" and "your."

As a bonus, when you re-apply, if you can explain what "you're" means, then you get 500 RSUs. 500 more RSUs when you then explain the difference between "its" and "it's."

You're welcome.

"you sound like some pregnant women on pms."

Okay, I volunteer to explain the basics of female biology to @eaa if somebody else will tackle the birds and the bees talk with him.

I know people that got hired back. But never for the same job (I think that would make the layoff illegal).

And wow this forum has gone to the dogs. Shall not visit again.

Was LRd last year. Its true - you'll find your job posted at a much lower grade level.

They are only hiring grades 6-10. No chance of getting hired at that salary.

Why go back? Your future is ahead of you, not behind you.

Lol, this place is getting funnier by the minute. Cisco is a union shop, so call your manager, I think he is saving that job just for you.

Based on the questions, you are BS, lie, and idiot. I would not think you deserve or have $185K. Glad Cisco got rid of you and you will have no chance to get back or find any job with salary >90K.

Good luck to find your new destiny.
