Why would they invest in new program for clocking in and out of your shift?

How will this catch the people that leave store to go get their lunch without punching until they are back and clock in for their meal break?
Or the smokers who go outside at every urge for a minimum of 10 minutes each time instead of just going outside on their breaks
Until the new system showed up last week, my Sears store allowed you to clock in at any of the computers on the floor and the manager's computers. Now it is only allowed on the manager's computers located way back in the office. More time to walk to this area and time spent waiting in line to clock in because multiple people start their shift at the same time. The managers receive immediate notification if you are 5 min early or 5 minutes late and they have to approve your punch in real time. If you shift ends and you haven't clocked out exactly on time, they are notified too. It's what I imagine a prison to be like with the guards keeping a close eye on you.
Never mind that the majority of employees in my store are middle aged or older and have been with the company for decades. Decades of not abusing the time clock but trying their best in the face of difficult corporate decisions. Makes me both mad and sad.
At Kmart we clock in at the POS. Every register has a time clock, very easy
@5fjm I feel they did it for that same exact reason honestly. They want to make you waste some minutes to clock in pretty much saving those few pennies. Pretty sad to. I am sure they also incorporated the system to find out people that would clock in and outsmarting the system.

Yes. Annoyed that it has cut back on the number and convenience of computers we can use to clock in/out now. I hate having to barge in and force anyone off of it, esp a manager.
Online push when the head of online was asked to resign and he was working on improving it and was a well known name. No one has yet replaced him.Have you even tried browsing thru the sites for apparel. The head of apparel was asked to resign to. Does Sears Canada have an online presence. One can only guess what is next. Craftsman's sold, Kenmore almost put up for sale, Die Hard no idea. Which supplier will sell now after the Sears Canada liquidation.

I keep forgetting that brick and mortar stores are on the decline, especially big box mall anchor stores!
Don't forget Sears as a company will not go away, just the retail side of it the big box stores are done. look for the big internet push once the mall stores have been closed and liquidation is over. So this new tool will work well in a warehouse so the managers know when the employees are here or not and late or left early ... which means less managers in any given spot.

it doesn't necessarily need to be a 'new' program - could be a modified or a resurrected old program - its just another new step in creating more steps
