Why would anyone work for Intel in the bay area

Stock at other tech companies is 5x and there is growth.

If grade 8 gets in Intel $200K, what is equivalent in Apple, NVidia, Google and similar top companies?

It would be good to know if someone can share what is the equivalent comparison for other grades like 9, 10, 11?

To OP, I think that Intel has increasing number of incompetent engineers due to increasingly incompetent management, who would in most cases have hard time to no chance of passing interview and getting offer from any serious company. However, there is still decreasing percentage of good and competent employees, who in some cases are well engaged and in some cases are just passively staying and still hoping that somehow Intel might miraculously self cleanse itself, but that is utopia since there is no will nor capability from Intel leaders to do it as they are complicit in all of this.

Brown-nosing is to some extent present in other companies, but in Intel it has reached metastasis level.

From time to time, Intel hires good talent in all grades, but very often those people are choked in Intel's political environment and their career goes through few scenarios, most getting out after some time and few rare ones get to hang onto some good project until it hits one of many project elimination exercises.

Because of these people, I left at a grade 8 with tc of 200k and got a job with tc over 280k. I hated intel culture but now I just hope it stays the same - I can easily convince few remaining top telents to leave, too. It's a win-win

I'm part of a particular ethnic culture at Intel. My manager and colleagues are also part of this group. We all look out for each other during these times when Intel is making cuts.

I don't have to back stab, I don't have to kiss butts, I don't have to do much of anything but my job there and that's the whole point 😃

I have no talent and work for Intel. Therefore, I'm more than happy with my compensation. I'm honest enough to admit it.

200k with 3% raise in Bay Area is slumming, and you feel proud of intel ?

Or proud you make 200k

If you are not good at gaming the focal system in Intel, your pay will be lower. Your best option is to move on to other company. You can get decent pay base on your technical ability.

Hmm I thought the median included all compensation. I'll have to check

Yep, Median compensation is around $130k for grade 8 + Geo bonus 8% ($10K) + $50K+ emp bonus+RSUs. I've been making close to $200K every year for past 5 years in SC. Intel employees can complain about a lot of issues, but compensation is not one of those things.

I agree with @1xxc. Not all of us currently at Intel is good enough or young enough to get a similar job at Google / Facebook / Apple. Also, once you are able to game Focals system, you can cruise at Intel, even at Grade 8+.

Only if you want to spend all your net pay on living expenses. California is a joke.

If at Intel SC/OR, grade 8 or above, you live like kings if you are mid-range pay or above. Bonuses are excellent.
