Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Friends and family

The nepotism is mind blowing. Lots of kids of big guys, how can you give them a poor review? He will get back at you via his daddies friends (all of whom he knows from when he was a kid growing up in Duri, Balikpapan or Caracas). His network from his first day on the job beats mine with 10 years in the company.

It's sh--e, he will be a big boss one day (just avoid any major responsibility/screwup) one and its as if it's preordained from above!

@ewua, Welcome to America, capitalism, the land of the free and the home of the brave. If I had a son or daughter who needed a job and was willing to work hard I would certainly lend them a helping hand. Almost all career paths in the US are based on networking of some sort or another. The firm that I work at today mostly hires people that they have done some undercover "vetting" of, i.e., they know the people from working there before and/or got a good recommendation & review from a current employee. Very rarely do they go to the general public. Now it's not about discrimination with regards to race, age, gender etc. but more just quality people and I appreciate that. We have a very diverse staff of all ethnic groups and ages but no losers or de@dbeats. I have been at too many places where they hire any loser who walks through the door.

Church, navy, friends...I saw a whole department explode with these affiliations. No experience or relevant qualifications in the required skill set. Struggling to keep their heads above water while pissing off the real hands working in the field. When the layoffs came...bam... they're all gone. Should not be allowed to happen. Where's the oversight. It will never change. Nepotism is alive and well. Sons and daughters protected while excellent hands are let go. Thank god im third generation and safe for life.

-djqv, Well - NO, I am uvh and what I posted was 100% truthful, and based 100% on real life experience. I respect your opinion, but you have to learn the difference between your developed opinion and the FACTS that I stated about my experience working for other major oil companies AS WELL AS Chevron. Feel free to convey your opinion in this thread but please don't confuse that with facts. When you have worked 46 years in O&G and have worked at different companies maybe then, and only then, will your posts carry a little weight. You are obviously a brain-washed, totally sheltered, blinders on, "Chevroid" and they have you EXACTLY where they want you. And BTW NO, the nepotism is not worse at Chevron than everywhere else, but you obviously haven't worked anywhere else to know........

-PS - Please don't come back with a FAKE/BS story about you working at different companies and gleaning all sorts of knowledge, we all know that it's BS before you even start, so spare yourself the embarrassment.

@OQfFoi8-uvh Is wrong and that should be stated in the open. Company values are influenced by this kind of situations; that affects us all. Otherwise CVX wouldn't spend so much money on "Chevron values" campaigns. It also affects the quality and command of the decisions that are taken daily in the company for business and employment matters. If the person or group of people making those decisions or supervising those processes have not qualifications whatsoever other than being part of the inner circle via family, church affiliations, golf clubs, and the like, then we should not be surprised Chevron is at the diire place it is today: low moral, lack of direction, loss of capital values, and loss of very capable employees. This has nothing to do with being liberal, conservative, white, g--, foreigner, etc. it has to do with personal agendas prevailing over weakly-defined company interests. Hard to be believe this situation does not affect everyone.

I've had two of the kids work for me. Both were great and both left the company because they were better than their parents. In one case the dad was a #1ah@le jerkstore but the son was a real gentleman and strong performer. In any case because these two were smart they are both gone to greener pastures.

1jhj, - Yes it is, and those paychecks keep flowing in like gravy as I sit here and have a nice cold craft brew in a frosty mug. I do my job just like everyone else, in fact, much better, Your point?

Yeah, sure. The only reason you were hired is because of family connections, not knowledge, skills or ability. The only reason you were not laid off is because of family connections, not knowledge, skills or ability. The only bottom line you contribute to is your paycheck. You probably would not have been hired by another company. Must be nice to be entitled to a job and be protected because of family connections and nothing else.

@OQfFoi8-ktw, Good for you and congratulations on you and your family's many years of service, hard work, and accomplishments. I'm sure that many on this board envy your family's tenacity and perseverance. They are simply green with envy and need an excuse to insult hard workers who happen to be related. Liberals are always looking for something to complain about and a reason to insult others.

Hell, I'm a fourth generation Chevroid and contributing to the bottom line, just like my Dad who retired last year after 35 years on the job, and my grandfather who put in 30 years before him and my great grandfather who worked all his life for Standard Oil. Nepotism? Don't be absurd.

Welcome to Chevron. This is the ONLY company I have ever worked for where nepotism is openly encouraged and promoted.
