Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Windstream CEO Tony Thomas Should Be Arrested!

The so-called leadership at Windstream has been setting up the company for buy out going on 3 years now. At the executive level it's musical chairs. Every week Windstream hires a new VP, and every other week one leaves - with their $$ package. Leadership has no idea what they're doing, but they've been planning this years' layoffs for some time. The first round was 350 people. Another round is scheduled for September, and the final one for the year will be October or early November. Final number laid off is about 800. No executives though!

I learned a lot at Windstream and gained some skills. I applied for the buy-out package and got it, which I am glad of. I do not like the way things have changed for the worse; Corporate has taken over every aspect of the job and it's obvious they have never spent one day in the field. We couldn't even get the grass cut around the remotes without going through some crazy approval process. Some remotes I cut myself because it was so bad. Things constantly changed week to week. New bosses, directors, management, rules, implementations. Loopcare is a pile of dung but we were mandated to run it every tt and within 30 minutes of closing the job. More and more work piled on, oh and hurry up and do 4 Gbonds and 4 TT's each day. You have employees who really care about their customers and doing things right, others who could care less and got away with doing nothing each day with no reprocussions. I worked with a guy who has been with the company 16 years and never got out of the van. He would pause tickets and go on one he wanted, add time to the job, call the planner and tell them he wouldn't be able to go on the one he paused. Referred jobs constantly to cable and it wouldn't even be a cable trouble. Never used his equipment, had numerous customer complaints, lied constantly, yet still works there and managers wonder why people bad-mouth the company. I fixed a myriad amount of jobs he told the customer to make another ticket on, always apologizing for him. Managers don't single out people because they are so worried about having a positive survey from his/her direct reports, so everybody has to suffer because of a few bad apples. I am glad to be gone and am sick of the corporate junk. Barry Bishop is a joke and refuses to take criticism on "his baby." Listen and ask questions to your employees and you might find they have good ideas. I gave my heart and soul every day but trained my very green replacement, aka Station Installer, who is only going to be able to do 1 maybe 2 jobs a day. Good luck.

Hey Post ID: @OE5gmfT-4xgo,

I'm not angry at all. And yep, I'm stupid enough to hang around this sinking ship, but only to do what I can to make a difference. Instead of people getting on this site and complaining, do something to make the company better. If everyone does their job...lets say at a minimum of 100% effort we would not continue to go through 2 no 3 oh my nad..4 to 5 layoffs a year. At the end of the day when one ends their shift and ask the question. What did I do today to make a difference and can't seem to find a rational answer, they need to be gone. These layoffs are not personal and no one should take it that way. It's all about business and keeping the shareholders happy and making a profit.

H8ter why are you so ANGRY?! What's your problem?! Is it b/c you still have a job at this toxic place???

Those that got out....life will go on. Focus on your future. Those of us stupid enough to stick it out on this sinking ship are the dumber ones. Hopefully when our time comes (and it WILL), hopefully we will get a decent severance package.

Oooookaaaaaay! So today's 8/10, right? Solid information is what you said, right? That's why I said get that b---s--- out of here. Not one single word of layoffs today. Please humor me with the next rumor. I'm guessing you will now say it's coming in September. Now that's more realistic.

August 10th, 2017 is the last pay day for the people who were just let go. Also, there is always a potential for layoff with acquisitions.

Won't be surprised at all if WIN continues the layoffs and continues hiring people from Centurystink.

The only way out of this mess will be to sell the ILEC portion of the business.

Not sure of more layoffs but it wouldn't surprise me...and you are spot on about the leadership not knowing what they are doing...the knowledgeable employees have abandoned this sinking ship...the writing is on the wall where we are headed and it is not good!

To think more layoffs at WIN are not coming would be inline with selling off the fiber plant and paying the dividend.

Man get the b---s--- off of here. The last thing we need is a lie about what's coming. Get the facts straight and try again about the coming layoffs.
