Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Licenses?

Someone posted this on another thread, I am copying and pasting because it concerned me and I would like to hear more input:

"My coworker said that they are now advertising the HAH staff as "licensed health professionals," https://www.humana.com/medicare-support/benefits/health-programs/care-management

and she was a bit worried, being an unlicensed PHC."

Okay, so I know that we were reassured in a recent email that "non nursing staff" will remain, but does that just mean hcmss and RS or does it mean unlicensed PHC as well? Are they unintentionally misleading in how they advertise us, or is there a plan to require only licensed health coaches?

There is no inside scoop, just looks as if they are moving towards licensed staff

I think you might be right, last poster. I find it hard to believe that they are unintentionally now advertising their HAH team to potential and current members as "licensed." This is a large company and they wouldn't want to mislead people with their advertising.

Prior to working at humana i worked for Medicare and a few hospitals... when i first started working here i couldn't understand why non licensed people were allowed to give medical advice (I'm not licensed and every company i worked for was very strict about what i could and couldn't do or say esp medicare)...i just figured Humana had found a loop hole around the issue...i think that it has finally caught up with them and they were trying to get out of paying all the extra money they are going to have to pay nurses and social workers...i seriously feel this is why they are doing the layoffs in stages... giving them time to hire people to replace the others... my advice to everyone is to move on now if you're not licensed (i know I'm looking) it's easier and less stressful looking for a job while you currently have one...ijs

Oops, that should have said "I didn't hear him say non-licensed."

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's input. I remember mf saying that PHC's were still a part of 2.0, but I didn't hear him as non-licensed - I may have missed that part if he elaborated.

My degree is in gerontology and so the fact that any new HAH positions all require social work degree or RN license has me concerned. The fact that they are now advertising HAH staff as all "licensed," has me hoping that was just an oversight during editing, but of course I'm probably being willfully naive. I am considering looking for something else, but that is for a number of reasons unrelated to this thread.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Mike franke said there would be a need for the un-licensed phcs,im guessing they may move us to other positions or reformat or rename our position.... But they are going to have to figure out ways to service members. Even with members graduating there are still thousands of members who need services, its cost effective to hire non-licensed staff

Plenty remaining PHCs are non-licensed. One would think they would have laid off strictly non-licensed PHCs already. Like when hcm-ss position was going strictly MSW. They were told immediately. I would wager many SS's aren't licensed just master level. The argument that all positions are soon going to require a license I think is not accurate.

Every. Single. Job. Including coverage team- that is on our internal site requires a license.

I was laid off in February and follow this site because I care about the wellbeing of others and pray for those still there. It's also a safe site to actually speak the truth about Humana at home. When I was laid off, the PHC roles posted at other companies- anthem and YHC, you had to have a license. This made me think hmmmmmmm..... and everyone laid off from my team was non licensed... the people remaining were. My advice... trust your intuition... especially if you're a female ( we just have that gift). Our intuit exists for a reason!

Asking for our licenses is nothing new, they need to keep track for accreditation. I think hcm-ss are all ok, since they are all masters level, the PHC seem to be at risk due to lack of degrees/licenses....there's less than 250 hcm-ss in hah, they should all be ok

On the SNP side as MSW are quitting they are replacing them with RN and now they have a department the is keeping track of licensures. They are also asking what witch MSW have licensures. My coach told me that's that's coming.
