Let's be honest the executives are the greediest bunch. The fact they are exercising and selling tells you what they are thinking.
Don't buy their diversification story one bit. You get rich by being greedy, you are selling to protect that. The $hit is going to hit and they are going to layoff again to ke their gravy train going, on your families back is what they are getting rich on.
Redeployment, but no jobs, so bye bye s---er

can we hit 30k views on this thread?
It's okay, I'm sure your next employer will love to hear all about the free fruit you ate while your marketability remained at zero. You can tell them all about how Intel gave you a budget to hire GB for all the work you could not or refused to do. I am sure you will do just fine sitting on your a-- at another company.
28K views, you know the big one is coming !
Even if Intel grows in profitability, it will still always look to improve skills of its workforce. That means there's always potential for layoff regardless of Intel's profitability. Instead of tying our job security to the success of a company we work for, I prefer to worry about keeping my skills current. Sometimes that's tough when your job requires some skills that will be completely useless outside of Intel. But it's our responsibility to try to find the right balance of doing the day to day work and developing for the future. Intel's primary responsibility is to pay us to do a specific job. Ideally your employer will try to develop you as well, but I don't feel they're obligated to.
Yawn. Projects get cancelled all the time ...
Bigger issue is whether you still have a skillset to get another job valuable enough that someone will pay you to keep you in the lifestyle you've grown accustomed to. If you don't, you should think about keeping yourself current.
What I've seen over the years is my fellow employees get nice and comfortable doing their little-specialized Intel niche technology, and when those skills aren't useful anymore, they are left scrambling to find a new job. Eventually 16-bit BIOS skills won't be needed anymore. Eventually all of your knowledge about SVOS or NOA or debugging QPI bugs will decay to a -zero- value.
I'd suggest - heresy I know - spending $30 on an ARM-based devel board off of Arrow and make something 'interesting' in your off time.
I tepeat. 3 quaraters of project cancellation s. July, October, February which will inevitably result in some layoffs each quarter. No mass layoffs.
On July 27 Intel could say "meh Q2 but no layoffs" and then do a 180 mid-September. That's what happened from Bk's January 2016 "No layoffs this year" to ACT 3 months later.
Unless/until Intel successfully taps a market outside x86 that is actually growing, the prospect of layoffs will not go away. At best the can gets kicked down the road for a few months until the next batch of financial data is due.
I think this rumor is bogus ... while the Intel hiring spigot can be turned off fast ... from what I see:
-
requisitions ("reqs") are not frozen
-
Still a lot of positions being posted externally - in several BUs.
The OP didn't say July of which year. It could be July 2020.
July is nowhere near over @Cuzx. In fact, it's just beginning. Plus, earning report is 7/27, so...... I think you're rushing things.
I think this thread should stay open through July 27th
Close this fake thread. Its one week finished in July today.
@ bsdc - This is flawed data that is a year old (older for actual data). It is not ALL tech companies, and it's not even an apples:apples comparison. Not worth anyone's time.
For all the people that keep saying Intel is bloated and losing profitability, check this chart out. Aside from Apple, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft, Intel has the highest revenue per employee among tech companies. Sure it has fat to trim and should periodically do it as it's doing right now. To assume these healthy trimming will lead to large scale layoffs is illogical. AMD will gain market share from Intel, but that will force Intel to invest more in innovation. Laying people off does not help you gain competitiveness.

2015: layoffs, 2016: big layoffs, 2017: layoffs, 2018:.....see a trend here? Intel by now is just burning cash from the good ol' days. It stopped being a tech company a long time ago.
Hey but will the dividend be increased!?!?!
Whew! Now that Intel layoffs this year is over, I can now focus again on my work.
@wyrx option 3 sounds right unless the number and visibility of projects cancelled are of a magnitude and impact that they cannot be kept under the radar. If that happens, then the general/admin areas (IT, finance, HR) will get a proportional haircut too.
If something above the radar happens -- and it's still an "if" -- it'll occur on the announcement of Q2 numbers and Q3 expectations.

Happy 4th of July!
I am GB working for Intel and just purchased a house in Hillsboro area. Things are looking good for us.
Oregon needs a complete purge. I'm confident they will get the biggest ax
Have no fear call CA and Ireland the prologue to another ACT.
To qualify as mother of all layoffs it should be greater or equal to ACT. What i see in the link is less than 150. Unless there are another 12,000 or confirmed then "mother of all layoffs" seems to be an exaggeration.
This just in from Oregonlive with numbers,

Not fake news Brah
Fear run thru the organization as everyone knows they could have a target on their back
Just wait for 10nm it will be awesome
Mother of all fake news threads. Wow, just wow.
This board is full of fake news.
Should Ind worry?
23k views WOW oh WOW! It will break 24K over the fourth as the employees know big cuts are a certainty
Are you ready, is your family ready?
22k views and growing says it all.
Rank and file know the Titanic needs a purge to maintain margins as they all know the silicon manufacturing situation which is dire indeed and the need to protect margins requires and ACT.
People will pay for BKs and TMG follies with their paycheck, house and savings the mass purge will happen gradually thru the end of this year and into 2018 and later of things aren't changed soon.
There already have been targeted layoffs for IoT and NDG. The question is what will happen after the Q2 numbers (and Q3 guidance) come out later in July. Options are (1) Nothing -- meaning no mass layoffs and no more targeted below-the-radar layoffs, (2) Another ACT-style mass layoff, (3) Continuation of targeted below-the-radar layoffs, or (4) items (2) and (3). I hope for option (1), fear option (4) is an eventuality and guess that for now it'll be option (3) and it will be presented in a vague, non-specific way to minimize employee worry while extracting maximum fiscal and stock price effect.
Hello Intel!! Its JULY!!!
Question is when, not if there will be more layoffs
I can't predict when the next layoff will be, but as an engineer do some common sense analysis and totally obvious what must happen!
Billions spent on new initiatives with years before real revenue or any profits. Crazy high capital expenditures for 10 and 7nm and both programs late and if 10 is any indication big cost issues are ahead!
Larger core x86 business is flat at best and management has failed to find a real credible strategy leveraging any Intel strength for growth for the future.
Look around at the design houses or the semiconductor houses and you see strength and focus from well managed and executing companies. Intel competitors these days aren't weak and poorly funded and managed like the AMD of old, nor is there a x86 monopoly printing money faster and faster like two decades ago.
At Intel you now see dissarray and diluted and half a$$ executed programs. We gave up on tablets, mobile, security and much more, and we will also most certainly not have stomach and fold up on the other billion dollar initiatives. Look to the stupidity of ACT as the first of the many silly things and most certainly more ACTs are coming as Intel has no choice given its situation and need to pacify the stockholders.
The date maybe July and maybe not, but the good old days are gone and more layoffs ACTs are certain. So the question are you ready as it isn't a matter of if, but only when
Excellent analysis by @O1Dde9P-dwa, a must read
@vxyx - Fascinating about OTC.
Kind of a microcosm of Intel...
4 from HR alone. And it's just the beginning.
