Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Logistics of getting paid and HR contacts after getting notice

Once a person is laid off, and enters the 4 weeks of "transition period", shall they expect any more paychecks until the lump sum in-lieu pay?

Also, is HR supposed to contact the newly laid off person or is the laid off person supposed to reach out to HR on their own?

Re COBRA

Also, if you get other insurance after being on COBRA, notify the COBRA provider right away that you are cancelling coverage, or you will spend over a year getting the insurance mess fixed.

COBRA allows you to continue buying the insurance you have, so they payout depends on what you selected at election time, though you can buy less (e.g., not for whole family if your spouse has insurance, or you don't want VSP or whatever.)

If you intend to use it I would take care of this ASAP as the processing takes some time and though it is ultimately retroactive, it is a PiTA to deal with the "your coverage ended on x" date questions from all your providers. And then pay ahead each month to avoid any subsequent lapses.

They should have told you about the meeting scheduled as part of the 1:1 meeting (this is part of the training I got when I was on the other side of the LRs) but I would just call ER and ask.

Another thing I should mention to watch out for- cell phone conversion. If you are on a Cisco paid plan they will have you convert to your own plan, with whatever company they had you on. I wanted to port my phone over to another carrier that the rest of my family is on, but cannot because the phone is "owned" by Cisco and I cannot unlock it. Easier to try to sort this problem out while you're still in the system and have access to IT support and they recognize your ID. I waited and it is still not resolved.

Great Info. How did you find out about the HR sessions to attend?

They will not reach out to you - definitely attend one of the sessions they offer for useful details. One key thing is to sign up for external access to ADP so you can get payout info (more on the timing below). When you sign up, you get sent a code from ADP to activate the access, do it right away - I didn't and it caused me tin be locked out and required IT help, which was a problem once my ID was not recognized (see below).

Here's what happened to me in the US:

1) during your notice period, you will still get normal paychecks, but the last one will include your unused vacation pay, if any

2) provided you send in the signed acceptance letter, your layoff payout will come in several waves a few weeks - two payouts for Cobra (for some reason, they pay the first month separately from any others). You will get mailed pay stubs for all of these, and it takes about 3 weeks for all of them to arrive.

You will likely need all this info to apply for unemployment benefits, as they ask for details on what you got paid. HR was able to help me directly answer the Unemployment questions, sitting with my on the phone as I plugged in the numbers in various categories they ask about in the application.

After your last day, if you call the Cisco support line (408-526-8888), only HR/ER willbe able to find you by your Cisco ID - in all other systems like IT support, your ID is disabled. So make sure you remember your Cisco ID so you can still get to HR after your last day.

Good luck
