I argued stating it wouldn't make any since to tell a company which employee 2000 people basically to get out of Sidney so we can get new business into Sidney. I argued Cabela's helps provide the necessary economic incentive to attract new businesses and also provide a huge source of funding for the OUTRANGEROUS BUDGETS REQUIRED TO FUND LOCAL GOVERMENT. Not surprising I read in the paper the town of Sidney Nebraska is going to provide a grant up to 500 thousand dollars to a new business which is scheduled to employee between 10 and 49 people. Tears come to my eyes thinking of the assistance we have given to HARD WORKING EXISITNG BUSINESS located in Sidney the last few years. The truck drivers , heavy equipment operator , used car dealers or even home owners we have basically stated WE WILL SPEND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF MONEY TO TRY AND RUN YOU OUT OF TOWN.

no when 7 or 8 companies sell out this is like 7 or 8 different business. which I am sure the city gave grants o more then likely to 7 or 8 different companies. A very odd statement that is like saying if a home is sold 10 times only one sale occur because people live in the house.
Different companies purchased the building on Greenwood Road -same product manufactured for over 30 years. So not 7 or 8 different business. Kind of like BP buying Cabelas
in reply to your comment about bad mouthing Cabela's for choosing Sidney Nebraska. I have a feeling almost every community in the united states would be more then happy to have had Cabela's move to there community and been happy to had given the assistance which Sidney has given Cabela's over the years. the reason Sidney was chosen was probably almost entirely because it was the home of the Cabela family . In regard to lukjan I myself would question how many community if any community besides Sidney would given a company 500 thousand dollars who may employ 49 employees in five years.
to the poster maybe read the post and do not twist the words around. their has been 7 or 8 businesses located in the building lukjan is scheduled to go into. I counted the 500 thousand grant the city of Sidney may give this business. I know this will be 1.5 million between three business will receive. I assume the city of Sidney could have given well in excess of 2 million. I just assumed the other 4 owners would probably have received 500 thousand from the other 4 business. I asked the question if anyone knew how much the businesses housed in this building received in grant money from the city of Sidney . however when you hear of the city council harassing the used car dealers , the home owners the truck drivers. I know you feel a lot of pain toward a new company only getting 500 thousands dollars from the taxpayers in Sidney if they employ 49 employees in 5 years. however I feel for the truck drivers the home owners the used car dealers who have had so much harassment of due to the pretty ordinance which Mark Neihauser stated several years ago he felt a need to enforce this ordinance big time because he often had to show potential employees at Cabela's around and It was hard for Mark to find a route around Sidney which wasn't embarrassing .
Mr all caps.
You say you are stating facts and then a few lines later say I guess Sidney has given 2 millions to the businesses...
Like your grasp of the English language, you're grasp of understanding what the word fact means is weak at best.
Stop bragging about being an insider. Stop bullying other posters. This is an open forum. And please stop typing in ALL caps.
@3tiz, this part of your post is nicely put, I applaud you.
So the next time you are in the room with the directors, please point out this is not a merger, but an acquisition.
Why throw the new company under the bus. I am happy they choose Sidney for expansion. How much money did the taxpayers give Cabelas and Tax increment funds did they receive. Don't forget about the new pool and new school . The local people didn't ruin this town - outsiders bought in by said company ruined town. What a welcome for the new company to get from people in Sidney. I support the new company moving to town.
To the poster who says the have almost 30 years with Cabela's and they have sat in the room with directors for three hours discussing the merger. These directors are the same people who ran Cabela's in the ground, of course they are confused and would call this a merger. This is fact, this transaction between Cabela's and Bass Pro is not a merger. It has been stated several times, that Cabela's is receiving money, thus this is Bass Pro buying Cabela's, or also known as an acquisition. Any business book or even a quick google search, you can see the difference between a merger and acquisition: The merger means the fusion of two or more than two companies voluntarily to form a new company. When one entity purchases the business of another entity, it is known as Acquisition. So the next time you are in the room with the directors, please point out this is not a merger, but an acquisition.
Granted insults are not conducive to any situation, in fact they usually only seem to make things worse.
Yet when one individual claims to be the only one to listen to and demands all those who make sport of this persons attitude and self importance to be banned, what does one expect? This only invites open ridicule.
If this person has the answers and knowledge of what is going on and what is going to happen. He/she should be open and forthwith and share this intelligence and their identity with the community as a whole.
No one, (except a few key individuals in positions of control,) has the answer to what the future holds for Sidney and the surrounding area.
All we can do is hope for the best at this moment and make the best of what is handed to us.
Too much uncertainty, everyone's on edge. But, that's not the reason to make it more ugly by accusing others and throwing insults.
Besides, this place is administrated, and making multiple posts in short period of time is considered as spam, so I'm sure if the posts were from one person, they would have been nuked. Check their rules, they also don't allow personal insults. Site admins nuke all your posts and block your IP.
I SEEN FOUR POST ON MY SCREEN. I THINK THEY WERE 46 MINUTES AGO 45 MINUTES AGO 36 MINUTES AGO AND I THINK 7 MINUTES AGO. ALL AGREED WITH THE PERSON MAKING THE INSULTS. ALL STATED AN INSULT THEMSELVES. YOU THINK THERE IS ANY CHANCE IT COULD ONE SAME POSTER?
I am stating facts. the fact is without Cabela's Sidney Nebraska is in financial ruins. We can probably find a lot of business to locate in Sidney if we give away enough tax payer money. I would guess the city of Sidney has given over 2 million dollars to the business which have located in the building lukjan is to going into. what we may have 10 employees in a year? I also am probably one of very posters who post facts. Harassment MADE my the last person who was making so much fun of me I think should be ban. totally uncalled for insults. Does nothing but insult and hurt feelings. EVERY FINANCIAL EXPERT AT A MAJOR UNIVERSITY WITH AGREE WITH BY POST.
Wow Mr. All caps has issues of importance and grandure I suspect.
Listen to me an know one else hmmmmm
the poster who I assume posted the same three post need to reread his three post. the building where the new metal business is to be located probably had a half dozen owners or more. this building housed many business who I am sure ran to the Sidney for a hand out each time they changed owners. So what does the brilliant poster (as two of the following post implied lol) started talking about Cabela's getting bailed out. Cabela's who has had one owner in 55 years. I myself would guess the business who were housed in the building where the metal business is going probably got over 2 million or more in grants from the city of Sidney . and have ZERO employees at this time.
last post excellent point. last two post spot on. WHAT IN THE HELL DID THE FIRST POST SAY. NO ONE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE GOVERMENT BAILING CABELA OUT. I mean these posts are all from the same poster.
The rumors flying around I agree who knows what to believe. However their is one poster on here who post the same general post ever day Cabela's and the town of Sidney are ruined and without a doubt he will argue constantly if you even imply bass pro may leave a small part of Cabela's in Sidney. usually within 20 minutes of his post you will see another post follow basically someone stating what a brilliant post. lol
With all the scuttlebutt and rumors flying around town and coporate, who and what do you believe
So many unamed sources,
In my honest opionion 99 percent is malarky and garbage.
Time will tell........................................
Does anyone really think the last three post were not all from the same poster. Read the post. What was offered in response. Nothing new, no facts , just a general opinion Cabela's and Sidney Nebraska future looks terrible. No facts . Just a general comment how brilliant post the post was. These three post everyone knows is from the poster. I will tell you something I have been with Cabela's for almost 30 years. I have set in rooms for three hours with Cabela's directors discussing the merger. All the post were made when I am at work at Cabela's. I guess my question to the poster what do you do for a living. I am sure you will get the no comment. I will tell the poster something in a statement released after ever major announcement it is read to I assume every employee at Cabela's. " it is important we speak with one voice in regard to the merger . if you are contracted refer to a telephone number with personnel. Poster what is your background. It is amazing the tremendous praise you received for BASICALLY DOING NOTHING EXCEPT BAD MOUTHING CABELAS AND TOWN OF SIDNEY. YOU OFFERED NOTHING ELSE FROM OTHER SUPPOSED POSTER.
The last two posts are spot on. It's very unfortunate for the people of Sidney and employees of Cabelas. The future likely won't be easy or fun. But I hope the posters who continually imply that Cabelas will take care of them and there is nothing to worry about can pull their heads out of the sand for long enough to formulate a plan for their future. Business is business. This is about money and as the previous poster said- corporate wins over the worker again. Please don't wait to let Cabbalas or Bass Pro determine your fate.
Last post, excellent point!!! That is absolutely correct. I do not understand why so many posters imply that this is a merger - contractual words are for show. The reality, Cabelas is not providing any money or incentive in the deal - Cabelas is selling for cash - that is not a definition of a merger, it is a sale, pure and simple. Incompetence brought cabelas to this point - done is done. Thanks Tommy and gang.
Why is it the government's, ( local, county, state), responsibility to keep Cabela's afloat?
Private company that mismanaged it way into the spot that it is in now.
Once again, corporate greed wins over the common worker.
Does anyone know how much money the city of Sidney has given to the businesses in the building where lukjan metal is scheduled to go over the years?
in regard to the post earlier. instead of as the poster stating we should run Cabela's out of town so we can get new businesses into town . Instead I suggest we set up a committee and used the 500 thousand dollars budgeted for a company scheduled to have 10 to 49 employee and instead use the 500 thousand and perhaps partner with the governor office perhaps and the cities of Oshkosh Kearney Omaha north Platte to set up a committee to save Cabela's in Nebraska. Because in the scope of things the only possible hope for Sidney or the communities to survive is to retain a large part of Cabela's. Also instead of our city manager and economic developer devoting so many man hours to a company which may employee 10 to 49 people how about devoting this time to save the company which is already in town which employ 2000 people AND IS THE LIFELINE OF NOT ONLY SIDNEY NEBRASKA BUT WESTERN NEBRASKA AND A HUGE PART OF THE WHOLE STATE OF NEBRASKA
Filing for merger states headquarters will be in Missouri
I have to sit back and laugh - everyone is talking as though the current Cabelas dreadful management will be calling the shots how this will be structured when the deal is finalized. Bottom line - Bass Pro is BUYING Cabelas - not the other way around. Despite legal hoodwink wording, this is not a partnership. Cabelas as a sub brand will only exist if Johnny Morris wants it too. Period.he will have to make tough decisions to ensure he can meet the payments needed to buy Cabelas - it is not about what the cabelas employees want.
Time will tell
I will restate what I said. I stated the reason Sidney Nebraska can offer THE HUGE incentive (500 thousand) to a company which may employ between 10 and 49 employee is because Cabela's is in Sidney Nebraska. I stated without Cabalas located in Sidney Nebraska not only would a company like this would not only not receive this huge incentive. they would also be subject to a even more outrageous tax structure to have to pay. I wonder what the small business man who owns a truck would think that the city council forbid you from parking in front of your property but we will give a 500 thousand dollar grant to a new company who may employ between 10 and 49 employee. (I wonder will truck hauling heavy metal to the new plant damage city street as a truck parking in front of their property?
I will give an example of where these rumors may be coming from. A couple months ago I was out at Walmart and a ex Cabela employed who works at Walmart. stated didn't the distribution center and corporate office close down. I thought they did. the other day I was talking to ex worker from Cabela's who was fired stated. In July the sale will be completed between bass pro and by January 1 nothing will be left of Cabela's and everything will be moved to Missouri. These are two ex employees who I am sure have a big no on rehire.
EVERYTHING I STATED WAS 100 PERCENT TRUE. YOU STATE ONE THING I SAID WHICH WASN'T 100 PERCENT TRUE
my statement is very clear. I was responding to a statement posted from another poster earlier. CABELAS HAS NEVER STATED THEY ARE GOING TO LEAVE. THAT COMES FROM PROBABLY EX EMPLOYEES OF CABELAS WHO WERE FIRED OR LAID OFF IN THE PAST. YOU STATE TO ME RIGHT WHERE CABELAS HAS EVER SAID THEY ARE GOING TO LEAVE.
since homeowners and other business related to the type of the new business have had to provide by the pretty ordinance of the city. Also metal can be heavy and a chance for street damage . I think the funds should be tied to the pretty ordinance of the city and the street damage ordinance of the city.
