Plan is already drawn, lists are being prepared and culling will happen in phases so its doesnt create a impression of mass culling. There is complete hiring freeze globally. Cisco will become mean and lean machine, in order to achieve stated mission, they have to let go 20K blue badge and 10K red badges. hunger games began. Update your resumes, if possible get some free trainings at expense of cisco. Be industry ready when your number comes, take good severance package and find a new job.

@NfOlXgP-3zfh Well, this Thursday (18th) the cull definitely resumes. The manager training has been done, and it's going to hit our BU HARD. Basic excuse is that it's "business conditions" and not performance. Our VP staff meeting didn't give any guidance on how widespread this would be, but it's here.
Like someone else said...never believe the Cisco job postings. Most of the jobs are locked up in red tape (politics, resource trading between BUs, or placeholders for open resourcing that will get frozen).
Trolls all of you! There not layoff in may. Why making big deal when real layoff do not happen until August!
Was alerted to our team today that we should expect some 1:1 meetings coming up this week. Not unusual at all to schedule them earlier. In the old days yes they were "emergency meetings" that your Manager needs to speak to you NOW.
Hmm, I've never heard of folks getting 4 or 5 days notice for their 1:1 meetings. That's deviating from the sacred "script". The 1:1's to beware of are sent out the day before the scheduled 1:1, usually pretty late so you don't have time to dwell on it too much. I've not heard of it happening any other way but I stand to be corrected on that.
Sad to report that I and a few of our mates got our scheduled 1:1 for the 18th. Knowing this day would come, but hard to internalize it.
While I am genuinely hopeful of being laid off and have been interviewing with the the last 10 days in anticipation, I seriously doubt any layoffs will reach the quotas being mentioned on this thread. I'm expecting "the usual" 5% with possibly no announcement but continued stealthy layoffs. That's just my opinion after being with Cisco for the last 9 years and seeing how these things typically play out.
Cisco HR in this forum can paint this news as "Fake News" but truth is Cisco is laying off 30K(20K Blue and 10K Red). Please note I am telling least possible figure. There are even murmurs that number could go as high as 40K , if Q4 revenue target is missed.
@NfOlXgP-esf - how do the new hires compare to the last people to leave? Lower grade? Less experience?
Not true. We just hired 3 folks.
Completely false....I had a CSCO recruiter call me about two different jobs this week.
If they fire 30k ppl and don't replace them then Cisco survival instincts are excellent
In our group we are only hiring G8/9. No more senior roles. G12 is the most targeted grade for LRs. G11s can step up to perform G12 duties at the lower compensation.
Cisco has done more than 2 SDN software acquisitions, probably over 10 (Tail-f, Cariden, MindMeld, AppDynamics, ContinerX, CliQr, Intucell, BroadHop, etc.). But, Cisco does not know how to run them from a leadership and P&L perspective. They basically kill them all over time with poor support, dysfunctional org structure, and negligence to run a real software business.
Most Cisco job openings are meant for greenies. I've seen my former role split into multiple job openings and have been approached by recruiters for a few. The grade levels are usually 8.
Not many people want to work at Cisco. It's not s-xy, nor is it part of the attractive larger companies (Amazon, FB, Google, Netflix, Apple). Even the big telcos (Verizon/ATT) have better focus on delivering software based applications. Not many people looking to keep their skills current think, "I can't wait to build the next router!" And Cisco is still trying to figure out SDN, as they've made TWO acquisitions in this space: Embrane and then Viptela. (Notice that both of those companies were led by former employees from Cisco. #Nepotism.
We all know they are doing LRs over the next few months and I suspect they will coincide with release of Q3 figures but you don't have to be a genius to realize 20k blue and 10k red is utter crap. Fake news is alive and well on this site.
been there and done that, these job openning are externally focused at best and list of skills if you dig deep are looking at fresheir type (GitHub..), at low grade level or targetting external talent who has the fresher image yet may not know much. doubt a kid will have exeprience deal with "router crash"... and not getting ...
Although I believe this layoff rumors is fake, the listing of job postings is completely inconsequential. Some job postings are not even connected to a hiring manager/department, or many times a hiring manager will create a bogus position to justify his/her job.
IBM is posting jobs, while systematically laying off thousands.
This assertion is contrary to the many current job postings listed on the Cisco site.
Can totally believe it. Would love to see the "plans" if you have them. Will probably NOT be their road to salvation, unfortunately......Keep cutting off your body parts until you can do wind sprints...not going to happen. They could afford to bring back the culture though. Never easy.
