Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Apple refused to pay Royalty. Major blow for Qcom.

Qcom existence in question as royalty business is gone. Management has no option but shrink the company by 50% for survival. Lay offs imminent. Stock to hit 32-35 level.

How does monopolizing the standards patents and abusing FRAND terms fit into Q's morals?

Let's see...Apple: $1/4 Trillion cash on hand. Qualcomm? $0 cash on hand. I wonder who will win this battle.

Over time modem would be commoditized more and more . It means less and less margin for Qualcomm with time.

There are already good enough modems out there..

QCOM Stock is DOWN 20% so far in 2017! Executive pay should be tied to Qualcomm's colossal failure. Where is the Board of Directors? Shareholders are "as mad as Hell and they're not gonna take it anymore! "

That was 10 years ago, you still unable to face the reality, Apple, SS, Mediatek and other have advanced in Their modems is just matter of time and QC is out of business, that is why Apple is now opening its arms and I am jumping ships......this one is sinking

Nobody else comes even close to qcom's modem quality.

You must be mad to think qualcomm can even lose this out. This is what industry followed since ever. Even Supreme Court cannot annul this arrangement

The royalty income could be reduced to 1/4 if APL's industrial average claim prevails. The best you fxxking slaves can do is to flee this junkyard ASAP if you are young. For the rest just rest&vest and go to gym everyday. You have nowhere to go except waiting for your package.

These companies like Qualcomm, Sears, Kodak, etc have so much money saved up it takes them decades of circling the toilet before they finally flush. There is always a cohort of 2nd rate performers willing to drink the kool-aid and ride the wave all the way down the drain.

Bish QC is over start assimilating that, the problem is that you refuse to believe it, is OVER and your little job is finished. You would not be able to find that job in SD anymore. Just pray for for a decent package

Qcom was $80 at start of SM era.

Maybe those fund managers lost faith despite that 1% bump yesterday and billions in buybacks

If the news was so bad then why did stocks end up goibg 1% up? Because fund managers do not suk ash like you losers do. Qcom is doing well and will do so in the future

@1rwj

You are wrong, Apple, Intel, Huawei, Samsung and others are working very hard to take over the modem bussiness, taking 50% of Modem from Apple is just the start for Intel, also no royalties Modems are raising, in 5 years there will no more Qualcomm that is the truth.

@hya "Qualcomm" has been a dirty word in the industry for 20 years or more. I used to attend 3GPP2 meetings in the early days, and already then, it was basically "Qualcomm vs the rest of the world". You could tell right away when you entered the room who was from Qualcomm, because they were the people with an arrogant expression perma-glued to their faces. Sure, they wielded a lot of power in standardization, but everyone hated them.

It's only becoming more obvious nowadays, because there is hardly any competition left for Qualcomm anymore. So the customers are chafing under QCOM's increasingly arrogant business practices. There's a near-monopoly in the modem business now.

Give it another five years, and it will be a full monopoly. Mediatek and Intel will not survive, and I doubt that solutions like Samsung's own modem will be sustainable.

Sounds great for Qualcomm? Well, let's wait and see how great it will be for Qualcomm engineers if thry are unhappy with their salary or the atmosphere in their department or anything else, and they realize that there is no other place left to go. Why should QCOM give raises to engineers who have no alternative options? Why should QCOM care about employee satisfaction if there is no other company where their specific skills are valuable?

So there are juat a few more years to radiate the Qualcomm arrogance outwards. Once the full monopoloy is achieved, it will quickly start radiating inwards as well.

Use to be said at many meetings "We are the Gorilla in the room we do what we want" to me inferring right or wrong we do as we please. Well QC you are no longer the gorilla in the room and payback is mofo. How'd the re-org go? Looking at doing it again now I'm sure. Like it or not we get what we ask for sooner or later....................Just hope the company cleans house of these fools that would say things like that, mostly executives, and save many jobs of the people that have done hard work for years. Until the top floors are cleaned of dirt bag lawyers and filthy execs nothing will change not even NXP will save them as the name "Qualcomm" will still be there - which is a dirty word these days. Hope upper management and all of HR-ER realizes the error of their ways and finds redemption someday before they reach the gates of hell.
