Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Keep your resumes up to date

Senior management announces today to keep your resumes up to date. That means more layoffs coming. They tell you that employees are one of their greatest assets but also announce that more out-sourcing is also going to occur from the current level of 30% to likely 60%. This is truly an evil company.

I know someone who was hospitalized and the manager never called to see if they were alright, nor did they send flowers.

There will be more layoffs coming. Both after the summer projects are done and when they outsource entire departments.

Get your new resume out there. (don't do an old style but a functional one). Take control of your situation and at least put it out there. It can't hurt to look.

Big companies don't care about people. I've worked for several. They care about stock prices, the board and shareholders. The rest can be replaced.

It isn't about good people or not. They are going to outsource a lot! Entire departments and functions will be contracted out.

Cuts are also projected to happen again in September after the summer projects are done. They just didn't do it now as they didn't want to jeopardize safety and they want them completed.

Honestly, as someone who is out and has found another GREAT job and GREAT company to work for.... please be proactive and get your resume out there. Start searching. Take control of your situation. Looking doesn't hurt and you don't have to jump ship if you don't want to but at least you can be sleuthing out other options and opportunities. The end-all-be-all isn't Enbridge or Spectra.

Do what is right for you. Big companies care little about people. They come-and-go. Think of it this way. Should something happen to you today. (say you fell ill or what-not). They would send flowers (because HR does that) and should you not be able to return, they would post your job next week. It doesn't matter how hard you've worked or sacrificed for them. They don't care about that. Please understand this principle of large companies. They must satisfy stockholders, shareholders and the board. That's all.

(btw...make sure your resume is in the new style and catchy. I spoke with an HR rep outside of the company when I was looking and they told me that a tired ole resume with a boring format goes to the bottom of the pile. If you don't know what the new style is, go to a job bank location, they can help you or check this out.... it is more about highlighting your skills and what you'd bring to a company...

I hope this helps. Hang in there. I spent several years until Christmas with the company and bailed. (I knew layoffs were coming and wanted to get ahead of them and stop living with the uncertainty. I was getting an ulcer over it all.)

I have not heard any managment advise to keep my resume current, so where was this advised, in Canada, Houston ?

I currently have an up to date resume but most should under the circumstances that are happening in the gas and oil industry, I would think at some point that cutbacks would have to stop, I have no idea how many current employees are left but cuts have got to stop, I have seen several good people leave to go to other companies and we are losing alot of talent, I feel managemnt needs to come forward and at least tell people that may not be affected that they are not going to be losing there jobs but I am guessing that's not gonna happen, there is so much uncertainty floating around the Houston Office it seems people are more focused on the next round of cuts more than work and that is not good for business.
