I had an extremely competent colleague that went to Meraki, internal transfer from Cisco. He wasn't one of the original cool kids and basically couldn't do his job. Toxic work culture. Unfortunately, he is now at Paolo Alto Networks, much to Cisco's loss.

@2ste - I think that's the case with all Meraki offices. It's certainly true in London. People trying a bit too hard to be 'cool' on their stupid skateboards. Still, that's the future - cheap and cheerful hardware with expensive licensing. How do they even live without CLI?

For those that don't realize it....the Meraki folks have free lunch, snacks, cereal, beverages, etc. Cisco needs to stop that, or spread it around. And don't lecture me on how much money Meraki makes.....their day of doom will come.

Fix the bugs in the stuff you have.

Tens of billions already spent hasn't dented this problem. They even tried having everyone wear a wrist band that said "Cisco" on one side and "Quality" on the other. Clearly it's an unsolvable problem.

Go back to what you excelled at instead of branching out into spaces you can't compete in.

Kodak and Sears are still out there so I say go for it!

The review's author is missing a key point. They point out that Cisco's debt is increasing, but think's it's OK because of the $11B in the bank. But if $11B is only 30-someodd % of the debt, and if Cisco keeps buying companies for too much money and selling them for huge losses or shutting them down completely, then the debt is only going to increase and having $11B in the bank will mean nothing.

Cisco needs to stop buying innovation (and killing it) and hire people who can innovate. Do in-house R&D. Fix the bugs in the stuff you have. Go back to what you excelled at instead of branching out into spaces you can't compete in.

Free sodas... the free "snacks" (which are placed in Tupperware bins in which people stick their hands into) are paid for by the SVP. Many SVPs don't want to pay for snacks. So your best bet is to locate a nearby building with them and walk next door. Get your free cheezits and espresso.
