Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Contractors

What ever happened to the unofficial courtesy of releasing contractors before employees? We would not have to layoff COP employees there are plenty of positions to fill if contractors were released

Releasing the contractors would stop the kickbacks. Follow the money.

They treat contractors like sh--, will never hire them even after working for them for years on end and yeah they don't sit on their dead asses and s--- the company dry. The only work getting done is by the contractors all while the actual employees are whining and crying because they have to get off their dead asses and do something you know like bring their own lunch to work, wipe their own a--, ect. Laziest people I have ever seen in my life. Good luck finding another job where you can do nothing and get paid for it. The real world has real expectations.

Probably true you no doubt are underpaid but if you brought as much value as an employee why don't they just hire you? They need to make room to keep employees and stop letting contractors hold spots that could be done by employees

Ultimately the hit-list has been finalized and approved. For here on in, it's a waiting game and no words or a$$ kissing will have any impact on your fate. Deal with it opposed to crying like a five year old.

Completely unreasonable that a contractor can "bring more value" than a staff member. With work force reductions etc - there is plenty of muscle to go around. Contractors need to be dismissed.

Especially when it comes to operations -- most anyone with a basic college degree could run a rig with little training.

sometimes you have to face facts that a contractor will bring more value than a useless staff person. And there are many of those around.

All the more reason to cut their a-- loose. EVERY contractor should be gone before the first COP employee is laid off !!!!!

Hate to break it to ya, but contractors get paid more than employees.

I'll second the JM "moron"...he just wanted to complain about Conoco engineers and bad mouth management when I ran into him, I was surprised COP kept him around with all the complaining he does.

Can't speak to MH discussion. He was just a name on a chart...seems like he is/was quite the consumer of male genitalia though.

JM never struck me as even remotely bright, I met him twice in the field and remember walking away thinking "this is the best COP can hire?"

I'm sure he gurgles balls with MH....

Wait a minute, the two must do eachother....

I have worked in two other American companies before COP and by comparison, COP is the most racist. It seems to permeate from the top down. There are some good People but a lot are biased and racist. Certain group feels the company is local to North America and not a multinational. I would be considered a minority (based on country of origin) and I know that I am one leg in or out of the company. Even though I am competent but I am not safe. I have survived three layoffs since joining the company. Hope I survive the next one in Sept. Majority of my fellow colleagues in North America who are minorities have been flushed out of the company in the three previous layoffs.

There is nothing personal about layoffs, it's a cost/benefit analysis.

Many, through no fault of their own have no benefit to company now hence layoffs.

There is no shame in being let go, in fact, most people will be laid off in their lifetimes

Many contractors have already been sent packing in the WCBU. If you haven't figured it out yet, it comes down to cost and not your feelings. The burden of a COP staff employee must be enormous and right now there are large number of them being payed a full salary for doing nothing.. this is no fault of their own , there is just no work to be had. I doubt it's personal.
