Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Not much to do anymore.

Is it just me or has the proverbial well dried up. I mean there is nothing going on except lots of internet time. What are you doing to look busy. Me, my face always looks like im in crises mood. Your thoughts?

Dude, did I just read that you are digging a hole to build a big vault to store and hide your cash and survivalist gear from the government? Wow. for whom? Like, for whom to use? The person who finds you dead in there?

Seriously dude, if you are serious, there are names for your condition. Long medical names.

Seek professional help. Soon.

This poster below put it quite nicely:

""Only an idiot would pay full taxes if they don't have to."... or a patriot, or a moral person, or just about anyone (who's) not a (criminal) sociopath. For most paying ones fair share is simply the decent thing to do. Period!"

Tax evasion by not recording transactions, etc, and a tax deduction, benefit or even taking advantage of a loophole are two entirely different things. One is a criminal act and the other is a legal applicable benefit designed to make current tax laws more equitable. Dodge the law at your own peril, but please do not recommend it to our current laid-off employees who have enough problems already without getting in trouble with the IRS on top of everything else.

No need to re-post any previous comments here. Just read the thread and follow the conversation or add something original. I work from the house, between running my cash businesses and excavating a vault under my garage floor. Yes, I enjoy reading the posts on this Layoff blog about my former employer. I do engage in serious exchange of information for the most part, but also enjoy riling up the ignoramous trolls and losers that also swim around licking their wounds.

@IP7v0qB-4fcs, Yes Indeed, That person should pay the back-taxes that he has stolen also by evading them. And he probably is full of crap about all of his side-gigs or whatever that he pretends to have. He is so busy doing nothing like the Useless idiot that he is that he's trolling this site all day. So you can be sure that his story is just troll-bait. Some of us actually have a life, unlike him.

-4yai, -4ayc is like a liberal democrat, the laws don't apply to him. He is like one of the Clintons. He chooses to ride on the backs of tax-payers while he pays none. His excuse is "They are wasting the money" or "They are not spending it wisely" so, therefore he is allowed to be a criminal and commit tax evasion and steal from others. HaHAHAHAHAHAH! I've heard d---beat losers use that line before. Nothing to see here. Just a common criminal.

That's like saying that since you don't like the way they produce the oil environmentally and/or making too much profit, then you are allowed to steal the gas, and you siphon gas from other people's tanks, because "The big bad mean O&G companies have been ripping us off for all these years so now it's my turn"

Thanks for responding, criminal trash, scum of the Earth parasite sponge thief who steals from your neighbors, you should know by now that the Government doesn't make or earn money, their revenue is OURS, the citizens, our tax-dollars that you are stealing, The fact that you do not like the way that they spend it does not allow you to steal, ride on the coat-tails and get a Free-Ride from your Tax-Paying Neighbors that you are STEALING from, idiot douche-bag. I have to go and earn my HONEST LIVING, work hard and pay taxes unlike you, who sponges off of the rest of society, like the worthless lazy POS that you are.

We all hope that you sleep well at night STEALING FROM ALL OF the HARD-WORKING CITIZENS OF THE US WHILE YOU DON'T PAY REQUIRED TAXES. Some of us actually CONTRIBUTE to society instead of stealing from it and living like a sponge parasite without paying your way.

Bye-bye for now Leech who steals from the rest of society and uses public resources.

@4gdz, I urge you to re-read your post again and substitute any references to me with the word; "government". Once you do that, you'll understand my point of view.

BTW, I'm providing a service and actually putting people to work. I'm not leeching of the backs of others. I'm just not contributing to the coffers of the tax man anymore. I've done more than my part already. Sorry, but I better get busy with that jack hammer. Need to return it by 5:00 this evening.

You are letting others carry your weight because you are a lazy do-nothing POS is what you are. You are entitled to SS, you pension, whatever you worked for, and it ends there. You are not entitled to public resources without paying taxes just because you think you "Paid your dues" I've heard that arrogant self-entitled line before. There is no such thing. No One OWES you a living, you parasitic welfare POS leech on society. There are terms to describe people like you, here are some:

When the government doesn't do anything for you, then it's time to go it on your own. That's my motto.

Since leaving Chevron last year, after way too many years having to pay high taxes out of no choice, just to see my country in worse shape now, with debts beyond repayment and d---beat individuals being coddled with my money, politicians and their friends lining their pockets and not being prosecuted.

At 61, I still have four more years of which I planned to remain working while waiting for my well-earned social security to pay me for a change. So meanwhile, as I'm out of the formal workforce, I've decided to get some payback of my misused taxes. I've told you what I'm doing and it's working out very well. So long for now. Keep up your ranting if you like. I'm heading out to rent that jack hammer I told you about.

That's true, -4ptk, it's the difference between being a proud, honorable, hard-working respectable law-abiding citizen, and a common criminal. The person that you guys are arguing with on this thread is obviously the second one and he is trying to convince you (and himself) that he is the first. This guy is obviously trash and scum of the Earth. It's not that hard to obey laws and do things on the up and up, I don't know why losers of the world are so inclined not to. It's disrespectful to your country, your neighbors and your country and people have been put in jail for much less. It's one thing to be against taxes or certain forms of taxation. It's another thing to let everyone one else pay your way for you while you rape everyone else in the backside. That's not protesting the tax, that's simply being a lying cheating back-stabbing thief to everyone else who's paying it so you don't have to.

Wow, why all the effort and grief? I told you that you can't take it with you. Didn't I post this already? What kind of a life is running around trying to evade the IRS and driving yourself crazy chasing profits that you don't need because you have all that you would ever need or want already? Unless, perhaps that the multiple side-hustle butt-hurt douche-bag is actually full of BS? I suspect that he is. Doesn't sound happily retired to me. If he was, he would be on the links, hunting. fishing. traveling, exploring, learning new languages & stuff, living life. Not mowing lawns.

The response that I got was an insult that I was trailer trash and a drunk. Wow. Sounds like a real classy independently wealthy happily retired , confident, caring and considerate gentleman to me - NOT LOL!!

Hey Tax-evading, greedy, arrogant POS douche-bag loser. Come up with a new story or plan. If the one you're telling is real, your life as well as your attitude, life and entire personality su.ck big time.

i.e. - No One wants to be like you and dreads the thought regardless of how much money you have or what you think of yourself.. Catch my drift?

Why is anyone getting upset? People who talk about having lots of money usually don't have it. Its called bragging. Probably why Trump doesn't release his tax return. The IRS may or may not find about tax cheats but seems like tax schemes take a lot of effort. Who wants to live like that?

Thanks for your post, 3pno. My wife is the consummate animal lover. The dog sitting service is an excellent idea I will work on. We had a small dog that we loved very much. We always had our relatives care for her whenever we traveled on vacation. I know there are many wealthy people who, like us, won't ever leave their "furry children" in a kennel or vet's office. The pet sitting business is mostly a cash business. We have a home with lots of acreage, so the practicality of working that one into my enterprise is feasible. -- To 3wlc, I think I may need to dig a deeper vault. When I do crawl in, it would only be to stash more cash. Have a nice day too.

@IP7v0qB-3wei Maybe you should crawl into that hole you're digging in your garage floor. I just got off the phone with the IRS. They're pretty interested in you're little story. Believe THEY have the means and wherewithal to track you through these posts, too. While they might consider you "small fish", the agent I spoke with seemed quite interested in your efforts to urge others in these posts to "stick it to The Man".

Only an idiot would fail to report a tax cheat.

Have a nice day.

I have a college friend up in the DC area who's wife started a dog sitting service about 15 years ago. The business grew over a couple years to the point where she quit her job. There is an almost unlimited supply of very wealthy people in the DC Metro area. These are her clients and they pay an astounding amount of money (in cash) to have their little furry babies taken care of. His wife makes well over 100k a year. He tells me she created a real business and only reports part of the income for tax purposes. The rest is spent on remodeling the house, taking vacations, etc. I have no problem with that. Only an idiot would pay full taxes if they don't have to.

Sure I am. I've been clearing $11-14k each month since the third month after beginning my enterprise. All practically tax free, which is the best part of it. My only real headache now is safeguarding my cash, since I don't dare put it in a bank where it would pop up on the IRS radar. I'm considering renting a jack hammer to open a hole in my garage foundation and build a vault in my free time without anyone suspecting a thing.

The reasons for what I'm doing now has little to do with needing money and almost everything to do with sticking it to the system. In three or four years, I will retire with contentment.

@IP7v0qB-2cat - Thanks man! Here I've been sweatin' out the markets, worrying myself, sick, over BREXIT, the value of the dollar, the Asian economic slump, the Fed's "policy", an' all I REALLY needed to do was go round up some Mexican day laborers an' start a couple of landscaping company's? Oh! An' a couple of hair/nail salons, too? Sounds GREAT! Sign me UP!

Tell you what, Slick,... you sound like the typical loser who's always got a new plan, or scheme, for "getting rich". I can almost picture you,... there are two morons, just like you, who live in my neighborhood,... the first lost most of their money, when he "became a day trader" (with the usual result), and now, they live VERY modestly,... the second lost HIS job under some strange circumstances, but not to worry, he then started selling magazines (you know, putting his chemical engineering expertise, to work), and drives around in high zoot automobiles (he's very fond of Jaguars), but doubt as to his raging "success" lingers, as, 7 years later, the couple has yet to move to the neighborhood "they aspire to". Guys like you have egos which demand "stroking", and shooting off your big mouth about all of your "plans" and financial success, on sites like this one, are all you've really got going for yourself. Don't think many of us are "buying" what you're selling, CHUMP!

Hey 2zyf, bragging on an anonymous forum won't get you caught. I'm just telling you that if you're fed up with "the man" having stuck it to you all your life, there's now a way to get repaid. Do you believe the crew who cuts your lawn every Saturday pays any taxes? NO. What about the small proprietorship nail and hair salons? HELL NO. What about most of the stand alone car washes? NOT IN A THOUSAND YEARS. The IRS doesn't care or have resources to pursue the small fish. Just be smart how you run your side businesses and don't be greedy. Pay some measly taxes, but keep almost all for yourself.

To use your own words, "payback is sweet", I hope you consider that as you are evading the IRS and folks like you serve jail time when the IRS finds out what you are doing. Believe me, I am no fan of the government, am border-line Libertarian, but bragging about doing something that gets people thrown in jail for several years shows what an idiot you are.

I got laid off last year after 28 good years with the company. I'm so glad to have been let go. I was planning on leaving 4 years later when I turned 65, but Chevron up'ed and beat me to the punch. No problems, though. Three certified financial planners and my own accountant assured me I had it made-in-the-shade years ago. Thanks, Chevron, for that 1 year severance bonus. The only thing I regret was the timing of my layoff. I couldn't postpone the severance long enough and had to declare it as taxable income in 2015. Uncle Sam burned me on taxes.

But I'm having the last laugh now. I'm hardly paying any taxes and I plan to make sure it stays that way from now on. I took what was left of my severance after taxes and some of my own money and started a few cash businesses. I bought and modernized 2 small car washes, started up 3 grass mowing crews and 1 pressure washing business. My wife, who also decided to retire, financed the startup of 2 hair and nail salons and a maid/cleaning service with 3 employees. Between the two of us, we manage the businesses from home. We make almost 95% of our income in cash and pay our employees in cash. Our employees are all "informal" or "off the books". Cash paid to them every Friday. I only declare the income paid by credit card and maybe 5% received in cash. Labor costs are low and the rest is mine now. I only pay a pittance in tributes in the government. Yes, the same government who hasn't ever done anything for me, including my supposed representatives. Four more years of this and I'm done. I'll quit and retire.

I don't have anything to do for Chevron anymore, but I have a lot to do now FOR MYSELF ONLY.

Payback can be sweet if you put your mind to it.

I went back to school. The only person in my group that knows is my super and he is also done caring. I really don't need this education. I do it to look/keep busy. There truly is no work, so I do school work all day. My team thinks I am on a special assignment. I never take in books. I photo copy or use a tablet to make every thing look work related. I have 3, 4 credit evening class and a 1, 3 credit course, Saturday. 15 credits and all my work is done from 7-4. I hope I can hang on. I never have seen any place so slow for lack of work.

Okay,... I'll "share", too. Maybe it will help someone who may be feeling a little down. I was let go, just prior to all the flap about crude prices. I had 27 years with Chevron, some fabulous assignments,... some that weren't, but I was NOT ready to leave, when I got axed. To make matters worse, my "supervisor" was an absolute JOKE. Looking back, I now believe she was a mental case. She'd show up, looking like a bag lady, when she DID show up,... she somehow managed to be "gone" most of the time and our manager seemed to mind, not at all. My buddy and I were expected to carry the weight of the group, but our morale declined as the months/years rolled by and nothing improved. We were just expected to pick up the slack, and smile. It all culminated with the "supervisor" waddling her fat a$$ into HR one day and crying "hostile work environment". Didn't take long after that. So,.... what to do? The job market wasn't exactly "thriving", I wasn't keen on jumping back into a corporate environment, anyway,... my wife was still employed (with Chevron), and we were in a good financial place. I just needed something to occupy my time with, and something really different than the soul-crushing idiocy I had suffered at the hands of morons, at CPChem. So, I bought a 3/4 ton diesel pickup, called a local hot-shot company, and within the week, was running all over in, and out of state, delivering mostly petroleum industry related parts, etc. It was JUST what I needed. If you're retired and simply want to stay busy, it's a way to go,... you won't get rich, lucky to break even. But, I will tell you,... it was kind of fun. I was pretty "picky" about which runs I'd take (nothing too far north, because I didn't want to drive in snow), I wouldn't pull a trailer (eats transmissions), and I wouldn't go into pipe yards (quickest way to tear a truck up,... they have HUGE fork lifts, and they don't mind banging your vehicle around). I drove almost 200,000 miles, in two years, and today, my truck still looks and runs, like new. It's relegated to hauling a shifter kart, now,... my new passion. I wouldn't trade those days, on the road, now, for anything. They helped me forget the BS of Chevron, allowed me to be my own boss, and I met a lot of truly wonderful folks. Not for everyone, but,... it worked, for me. Good luck, amigos.

I haven't done much since the last ESP in April . Heard today that the fall PDC will be for must moves on projects and that our group is not looking to cut anyone. If the must moves (26 & 27's!) can't find a job they will stay in their current position! That makes NO sense whatsoever. Pretty soon the whole company will be sitting around web surfing . I give up

Before you are laid off...

  1. Update your Chevron HR and Vanguard accounts primary contact information to your mobile or home phone number and personal email. Make your Chevron work phone and company email your secondary contact preference for now.

  2. If you have external accounts such as LinkedIn, update your contact settings to your personal email and mobile phone.

  3. Print or save the last 3 years of your payroll statements while you still are an employee. Once you can no longer connect to the company server with your badge, the payroll info on the Benefits Connection website will be unavailable to you. Only your pension and medical benefits will be available externally at www.hr2.chevron.com.

  4. Print an "Employment Verification" fax containing both your current salary and initial date of employment. You can do this through the Benefits Connection website. (If you send the fax to your company fax number, stand watch at the fax machine, as it could take up to 10-15 minutes for it to be sent). You can also send it to your home fax for more security.

  5. Run and print a "Retirement Estimator" report from the Benefits Connection/Retirement website now. Set the parameters to show your retirement on your supposed termination date and set both assumptions for salary increase and bonus percentage to zero. The objective is to have an idea of your lump sum and annuity amounts due to you in case you are laid off. Also it will provide you with a printed statement showing your Highest Average Earnings (HAE).

  6. Copy or move all important and personal files to your laptop's C drive. That includes important emails, contacts phone numbers and email addresses. This way, you can accumulate everything in one place, before taking the laptop home to move it all off to a thumb drive or external hard drive. Don't risk moving or copying files onto a removable drive from work. That action is logged and can be monitored by the IT department. Do this at home or in an office touchdown room while not logged into the company server.

  7. Group all your personal printed and documents you no longer need and dump them in the company's confidential document dumpster for shredding.

  8. Start taking your personal effects home a little bit at a time. Pack things like picture frames, decorative items, cups and coffee mugs, your printed and signed PMP evaluations, resumes, etc.

I had almost zero work to do my last 6 months before I was laid-off. The project I was involved with had almost all the funding cut off. I knew in my gut that the end was near about 2 months before I was cut. Don't deny your gut instincts about your position and work load. Everyone is being watched. Watch out if your supervisor, team lead or manager comes by and asks you to wrap up everything you are working on and provide a status report. Enjoy the slack time while you can. Chevron is hurting bad for positive cash flow and everyone is a target, even those who think they are safe because they are banging the boss. Yes, that does go on at every large company.

I have a cubicle in the rear corner of my floor. There's a wall on one side behind me and I have an empty cubicle next to me. These days, I have the luxury of taking long naps almost everyday. The wooden subfloor around the corner from the outer cubicle makes a creaking sound when someone is approaching, so that tips me off to perk up and look busy. Otherwise I'm catching 40 winks with hardly nothing else to do until vanpool time at 4:00 p.m..

I was cut at the end of March. It took a full month to settle down. There is virtually no professional work out there. Don't expect Chevron to call you back. I thought about taking 1 or 2 part time jobs doing bs stuff at minimum wage just to keep busy, but decided to take an extended break. I stay up late at night, get up late in the morning and am so much more relaxed and actually feel healthier. The long break has been good for me. I don't have a house payment, which is not true for many people. I might take a crap job later this year. I am too old to ever get hired again in this industry. I guess I will just end up being a retired bum. You get used to it. I have paid my dues to this industry, only to be treated like sh--. To he'll with it.
