Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Strong employment report, but...

But that is no cause for cheer for the laidoff oil industry employees with this dismal state of affairs still lingering in oil industry. If Hillary is going to get elected, which is looking more and more like a certainty these days what with Trump squandering his chances day after day, she is going to make things much worse for this industry. Remember she wants to finish the job Obama started, and finish she will.

-2gyc, (-2jqe) who plagiarized my post and changed the words a little, like a 5-year old would, - My position is neither biased nor argumentative, simply factual. Clear the cobwebs out of your brain. America needs more free thinkers, not close-minded ones such as yourself. The current state of the U.S. administration and it's incompetence relative to previous administrations, both republican and democrat is no secret and has been researched, evaluated and reported upon by many political scholars, not left or right wing, just historians. It has been deemed a failure by both conservatives and liberals alike. Keep your head in the clouds and stay brainwashed, naive and clueless, my friend and the country will become increasingly more divided.

Believe I made that very point, in an earlier post, but, until 2ibd chimed in, it appears to have been overlooked by the ever-so-clever, others. As 2ibd says, our only hope, at this juncture, is someone OUTSIDE OF THE CURRENT POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT.

Hey, all of you blockheads. Both the Democrat and Republican establishment parties and their minions of elected officials in the US Congress are your enemies. Neither one is looking out for our collective best interests. They only serve their own interests to preserve power. To them, elections are only a tournament to see who sits at the best end of the dinner table. But, no matter where anyone of them sits, they still will have a feast. Wake up people. Why do you think Trump scares the hell out of both establishment sides of power. Answer: He's an outsider and threatens to expose the corruption and hipocracy that's been going on in Washington DC since before you were born. Question: Is this your country or theirs?

@2uya - It's been shown by various studies that using facts and logic in political arguments with people who have strongly held beliefs is simply ineffective, and in many cases causes them to harden their false beliefs (see https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-facts-dont-matter-to-trumps-supporters/2016/08/04/924ece4a-5a78-11e6-831d-0324760ca856_story.html for an overview of why this is the case). So there's really no point. But it's too hard to resist making fun of them.

@2srj - The current state of the U.S. administration and it's competence and ability to get things done relative to previous administrations, both republican and democratic is no secret and has been researched, evaluated and reported upon by many political scholars and historians. It has been deemed one of the most successful by both conservatives and liberals historians alike, especially when you factor in the unprecedented obstructionism of the opposing party. Keep your head in the the clouds and stay brainwashed, naive and clueless, my son.

See, anyone can make up "facts" to suit their beliefs. Proves nothing.

2aqp. Correct: the economy could only improve after Obama took office given that Bush nearly tanked it completely.

@2aqg - Of course, everything bad is the fault of Presidents and people you don't like, everything good is either inevitable, not good enough, or the result of Presidents and people you like. Must be hard constantly convincing yourself of this in spite of how obviously wrong you are.

-2hyv, The rebound from the most recent Democrat recession in '08 after they took over both houses of Congress in 2007 and after the Clinton /Barnie Frank, etc housing loan debacle. has been the weakest and most pathetic in the history of the US. A monkey could have been president and looked good with the stock market as beaten down as it was. It had no where to go but up. Just think of what your retirement savings would look like if we had a real president in the white house for the last 8 years.

At this point, anyone who actually believes ANYTHING our government says, the data they release, or what they say they have done, or are going to do,... excuse me, that should be, "goin' ta DO" (have to give the clown in chief his props), is a moron. Trump, God bless his bombastic self, may be our only hope. The ONLY qualification for POTUS, in this election, ought to be: Are they PART of the establishment, or are they from outside the establishment? Because, it's the establishment that requires massive change. Hillary? About as establishment as they come, a serial liar, borders on psychopathic, shrill, and self-serving. If she wins in November, it will be time to get out of Dodge. I'm retired, and while quite comfortable in my retirement, this country is changing in ways I find both decadent and unsustainable, and I don't care to stick around and watch it devolve, even further, which, if a Democrat succeeds in November, it will. I'll simply move to a country that still retains it's own culture, a country that still reveres God, family, realizes the moral and psychological worth of work, and life. During the reign of Barry The G--, those pillars of our society have been under constant assault. Hillary, if she wins in November, will simply speed up our run to the cliffs.

@2qdu - Actually, I just retired and a large part of my savings and increase in my retirement did come in the last half a dozen years before the current downturn when the oil industry was booming, so I don't know what you're talking about. Stock market more than doubling since 2009 didn't hurt. Don't know why you say you can't make this up, cause that's exactly what you've been doing.

@IJ9ZYCj-2ncc, Yes that is very nice for the small percentage who can afford that. It's a shame that Obama has made the opportunities for that worse since he has been in office - the average household income has declined. Anyone who is able to retire now has built up savings from decades ago, long before the clown to prove that they could elect a half-white person was elected. In addition, many of the jobs added in recent years have been part-time, which explains it. What is so ironic is that very demographic who's income has declined the most under the current administration, vote democrat!!!! You simply cannot make this $hit up!!

@2jji - Yeah, it's an outrage that older people can afford to retire or that young parents can afford to have one partner stay home and raise the kids. What's the world coming to. Those old folks should want to work till they drop.

Also - please don't insult us by stating that Obarrassment has created jobs by barely keeping up with population growth and jobs lost by attrition.( ~ 250k/month) you need that many just to break even. The workforce percentage is at it's lowest since the 70's. Save us the ignorance about how you feel we can get away with fewer people working BS also. Honest, law-abiding, self-respecting, citizens WANT to work and contribute to society. They do not want to be liberal parasites. The fact that a large portion of liberal democrat society has determined that is is not required of them to work and be productive is irrelevant.

@IJ9ZYCj-2qxz, I don't doubt that the dems will win, after all, there are many more people now who need to be dependent on entitlements and will vote for more, than ever. However, what do you mean by progress? Hillary (although you can't believe that what she says is a lie or not) has said in an interview that in many case Obama has not gone far ENOUGH!!. So , is progress even MORE people on Foodstamps. even MORE people in poverty, and and an even LARGER national debt? These are all metrics which have reached record highs during the Obama presidency. I know now that a lot of things need to be fixed, but I fail to see the logic or intelligence in doing more of the same to fix them. From what I understand, that is the definition of insanity.

We'll find out on November, 2qxz. Agree with you that Trump needs to stop putting his foot in his mouth. If that continues, we will see Hillary win, which will damage this country beyond what Obama has already done.

The economy boomed in the 90's under Bill Clinton but the price of oil was low for the decade. Hillary is a shoe in for the presidency because Trump cannot keep his foot out of his mouth. The Democrats are going to win the presidential election and begin to make progress in the House and Senate. Big oil is going to suffer for the next several years.

The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 4.9 percent in July, the Labor Department said Friday. But relying on that one number as an indicator of the job market is an oversimplification of the complicated world of employment.

Each month on jobs Friday, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics puts out a slew of employment-related data, each of which tells its own story about the jobs situation. Most economists look past the official unemployment rate — also known as the "U-3" number — to other metrics that provide other views of the state of jobs.

One of those figures is the U-6 rate, which has a broader definition of the unemployed. That rate rose slightly in July — to 9.7 percent.

Strong employment report and apparently strong economy makes the incumbent party more likely to win. Double wammy for oil.

No doubt you're right, OP. I hope Trump straightens up his act and focuses on the issues and on his opponent, rather than easily being swayed with sideline distractions. Nonetheless, I'm voting for him because I know Hillary means another 4, or maybe 8 years of Obama. Worse yet, this country will change dramatically with her blanket amnesty and 2 to 4 more liberal justices on the Supreme Court. This country will become another socialist style Europe.
