Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Packet

My husband EOI was granted and April 13, 2016 was his last day in the office. We have not received any correspondences at all from Chevron. Have others received them. I know of someone who was April 4, 2016 and he received his. I had my husband call yesterday in regards to the COBRA package and this is what he was told: You have to call within the last 30 days of is employment. They said you could even call on June 30,2016 and that would be ok. I said no way, they are going to want a check. So what are others experiencing at this time. Have the April 13, 2016 laid off employees received their packets? I plan on calling Talk2HR again today.

Your husband hasn't received anything because he's still employed by Chevron. He may have been told he didn't have a job but he's still on the payroll for another 6-8 weeks after that. First, ask your husband what his termination date will be (it's in the letter he received). Next, read the materials he received when he was told he was being laid off. Next, wait until he's off the payroll. Then, and only then, will he see anything on COBRA, severance or anything else. Of course this was all explained to your husband by Chevron but he obviously didn't bother to listen or convey this information to you. Good luck!

@2zae, Thanks for your most accurate post. What you just said is exactly my experience (I was laid off in mid 2015). Things worked out smoothly gorgeous me. I hope every ex-employee takes close note of your post. Pure Gold. Another one for the Chevron Corp Layoff site Hall of Fame.

I EOI'd Oct 8 2015 and officially terminated Dec 8 2015. In that interim period I spoke to TALK2HR a few times about COBRA because I was a bit nervous, and got the same answer: it would be mailed after Dec 8. Right after Dec 8 I called TALK2HR and asked for the packet to be sent and it showed up a few days later. It is personalized to the extent you are provided a unique ID (as I recall) and although there is an extensive form to be filled out and returned, they also provide the ADP website and you can just go there with your ID and whatever other numbers provided in the packet, and in about 5 minutes you are registered and good to go. You can pay online; they ask for your bank routing number and account number, and automatically debit your account. They don't store that account info; you enter it each month you make a payment. I always pay the next month's premium a few business days before the end of the current month just so there isn't ever a gap. It has worked great so far; medical, dental, mail-order RX never missed a beat. From what I gather, it is best to call TALK2HR about 6 weeks prior to the end of your 6 month subsidized period and let them know you intend to drop COBRA after 6 months and switch to whatever (e.g., mid-May for coverage ending in June).

@HdAWoJ6-1clz, No, you are wrong. I am the wife who posted that. My husband was laid off. Since then we have had plenty of time for fun and I am loving it. So sorry about your situation, dear, but that can be fixed. Keep working on your love-life, honey after the years go by you will realize the things that money just can't buy. It's the money that's corrupting your mind, I can tell by how most of you post on this site. "No man is that lucky"???? Dear God you are deprived. I can't believe the types that work in these offices. What is it - a prison?

Packet? How 'bout PACKAGE! My Hubby is home now, thank goodness with his tremendous package. And it is spectacular. Now he has much more time for me, and I treat him well and love working his package to no end. And I have to brag, I am quite good at it. I can make music with that thing like playing a big Sexophone! And after that it's time for my ride. You deprived husbands out there are obviously with the wrong women. I bet I could please a few of you at once - LOL.

So sorry, my husband who you think I will leave has 37 years with Chevron, I have 35 years on my job earning just as much as my husband. Always did. If I wanted to leave him would and could have done it along time ago... I earn 6 figures just like him, so I could have left along time ago..... he just relies more on me to ask the questions..... I have just as much to lose as he does..... There are some marriages out there that both the husband and wife make that kind of money... I guess some of you just didn't realize that....

I am with you on that one. Back in 1986 I lost my job and the very first thing my wife said is 'What? Why did you let this happen? It's all your fault. You are the one who chose to go in the oil industry.' Well, 3 years later she divorced me after a year long affair with a guy at her office. To make it worse, when I called my parents to tell them and ask if I could come home for a while to search for work back home (the DC area), my father said it was my own fault for being such a lousy employee and hung up on me. People love it when you are making decent money, but when it is gone, you are a grade A loser.

The ADP COBRA Services packet will be mailed to you once Chevron informs them of your status as a terminated employee. It does take time and it wears on your patience, but it will come. Keep all receipts if you have to pay out of pocket for any medical service. Use the same doctors and facilities as your previous Chevron plan since COBRA will continue that same service for 6 months at the active employee rate. When you get the ADP COBRA packet, complete it quickly, make copies for yourself, and mail it back to ADP via US Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. You must use the US Mail since it will be going to a P.O.Box in Alpharetta, GA.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Enclose your premium payment for any previous month due PLUS one month in advance. All COBRA premiums are paid in advance. Even though you are given a 30-day grace period, don't let it lapse. If you let it lapse, your subsidized coverage is gone forever.
