I heard from a reliable source that Covington is shutting the doors and relocating to Houston.

As a previous poster said, it's going to take years before this possibility becomes a reality. By that time, the oil price will be back up and then Chevron will decide to expand again in Covington and keep the ducks swimming in those lakes.
Hey @1sjj and @ 1ldl, Houston is my town. If I bring you over here from Louisiana, you become my subordinate. Take my word as a warning. Come here and grandstand and as your possible next supervisor, I'll knock you down to size. Don't push your luck.
@H6Vq8x3-wph, That's not what happened to every other company that I worked which had a Houston office. Every other office where LA employees moved permanently or commuted, etc, they ended up making them supervisors and leads. The LA personnel were the only ones who knew anything and the Houston employees ended up all being subordinates. Those are the facts. I can understand why the Texas boys are all getting upset. I understand completely. And I love Houston. I love Tex-mex food and Shiner Bock.
Sounds like some of dems Steers & Queers over there in Racist Bigot city Texas have gotten their panties in a wad. Are them good ole boyz afraid they will have to tighten up and do REAL WORK????? LMAO!!!!
The bigots of Southeast Lousiana won't make it to Houston. It's not mud bug territory. If they dare come out here, they will slowly shrivel and die or quit their jobs to go running back to Louisiana.
Good. Get rid of the GOM bigots of South East LA. Its been a long time coming. The only BU I worked in that was a disgrace. So many people won't go back there anyway.
The LAF575 office will close it's doors at the EOY 2016. It will take a few more years before they can complete the closure of COV100, but, it will be in the planning stages in 2017 to be completed by 2018-2019 at the latest.
This is a better way to layoff people who do not want to move for their job and give them a severance versus moving people all over the country because of the ESP results.
I don't know why Chevron likes to build new buildings everywhere...Covington, Midland and they almost started another high rise in Houston and they have so many other Houston office locations. They are like the Statbucks of all the oil companies. So inefficient.
ExxonMobil shut down New Orleans and Midland offices over 20 years ago...these efficiency gains are why ExxonMobil is not going through mass layoff...CVX management is 20 years behind.
Until we see tangible proof of this online it is still a rumor. If it's true, then no more wasting money on business trips between Covington and Houston.
Wasn't supposed to happen for another year but I guess they realized that what is left in GOM can be managed from Houston, especially the deep water assets
I agree, @vdm. If you get relocated to Houston, you and your family will never regret it and will be thankful to Chevron. Look into Fort Bend County as your first choice to buy a home. Routes from Katy (even Fulshear) or Sugar Land are excellent and have lots of vanpools to join. Parking downtown is expensive. Your second choice can be The Woidlands (north of Houston). Lots of nice neighbors but the commute can get tiring real fast. Fort Bend County is new and still growing. Property taxes in the right place is lower than in The Woidlands that is in Montgomery County. Forget about living in Houston proper (Harris County). Just like Orleans Parish is to New Orleans, Harris County is to Houston. The urban problems becomes the suburban problems when it comes to taxation.
Hopefully, this isn't a rumor and is actually true. Chevron needs to centralize their technical excellence in Houston. GOM can be run just as good from Houston than from Covington. Every major co-owner and service vendor provider is based in Houston.
"Wow", like in you are coming to Houston or "Wow", you didn't know this?
Wow
The seafood in Houston is as good or better than in Covington or New Orleans too. The Houston Rodeo will replace the Jazz Fest for those who come.
That is the rumor. The building is up for sale (to pay for the damn dividend) and then it's off to Houston for those with a job. Lucky those who get a relo package. Houston has more to offer than Covington or New Orleans.
