which new talent? they will be hiring the next kumar or santhosh or whatever cheap labor they can find to be able to put the words IOT on their CV after writing a couple of embedded C bug fixes... and in the meantime they will have to re-train them and check if they will fit in the QCOM "culture" (nepotism, slavery), while on the other side they layoff people already trained and fit for QCOM... and by the way, totally agree with @Ge1mQq4-1ssr on whipping on QCOM's ass as a personal thing now.

This is very common. Work force levels in the expensive West are fixed. To hire new talent, someone has to retire, leave, or get axed. This is known as the zero sum game. Intel, IBM, Cisco, et.al. have been doing this for years.

What potential applicants might want to consider is that Qualcomm RIF-ed at least a dozen of the best Linux people they had in both S.D. and CO, who would have made an excellent core group for servers. They also RIF-ed most of their best ARM guys. We now work for the competition in servers and IoT, as well as cellular devices. Qualcomm is screwed for at least the next five years. The other side's people are now not only better; but for some of us, whipping Qualcomm's @$$ is personal.

They announce they are going to lead these fields yet they don't even have anyone with expertise in these areas. great.

It's really because they need to hire for IOT, server, etc... When Qualcomm told everyone that IOT, servers , automotive and drones were they future, they didn't bother to tell everyone that they're going to layoff their existing staff and hire people with experience in these new markets.

New people are much cheaper and probably have better, up-to-date knowledge than the older farts.

Sorry, but that's they way it is these days. And the companies are all getting away with it.

Soon, we will all be training our replacements who make one-third of what we do and there won't be any decent jobs in the US/UK economies.

We're f**ked. It's time to retire.
