Thread regarding NetApp (formerly Network Appliance Inc.) layoffs

GK's email is out.

Team,

Today, we will begin notifying employees who will be impacted by the global restructuring we announced on February 17. Most of the impacted employees will be notified over the next 24 hours. However, in parts of EMEA and APAC, the restructuring and potential employee impact are subject to local consultation processes, which are ongoing.

The people who are impacted are our friends and colleagues and we will go through this process with the utmost respect for them and for their contributions to NetApp.

One of the best things about NetApp is being part of a team that cares deeply about building a company we can all be proud of for the long term. Decisions that impact the team, even when needed for the long-term health of the business, are difficult but we cannot avoid them. We are responsible for balancing business realities, shareholder expectations, and financial results while sustaining what makes NetApp a special place to work. My commitment is that we will carry out all decisions respectfully and treat employees with the dignity and care they deserve. This includes putting into place controls so that the changes we make are sustained, and staying committed to transforming NetApp permanently into a leaner, more efficient, and effective company aligned with the changing landscape and focused on the fastest growing segments of the market.

I am personally committed to building a thriving company that honors the contributions of every NetApp employee. This period of extraordinary change will yield extraordinary opportunity to help customers navigate these changing times, and to help fundamentally transform NetApp to lead in the next era of IT.

George

This is a sure sign that this company is going down the toilet. Four years of layoffs? Surely anyone with value has gotten out by now. As a customer, I won't pay for products where the support is provided by Indians, who simply irritate the f--- out of me. Let's join together and boycott NetApp from now on, and any other company that comes along with inferior, Indian H1B supported, traitor products.

What a jack ass GK is. His words are a cover and distraction for his own incompetence.

I don't see him or any other leaders being impacted, let alone cutting their own company paid perks or golden parachutes.

They don't give a damn about the employees they've let go during the last 4 layoffs (in 3 years). They want them out swiftly so they can get back to business, conducting their expensive road shows to attempt to convince the survivors that everything is going to be different and better this time around. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me 4 times, shame on me.

There are plenty of solid companies out there with as good or better cultures, pay, and benefits.

Rub your eyes, open them back up, and look around at the dysfunction that NetApp is and will continue to be. Have pride in yourself and find those better opportunities.

Don't worry about GK, he's got a golden parachute that is large enough to protect him and his family for the rest of his life.

Do you have the same protection?

A sinking business. This round of layoffs is an attempt to plug a giant hole in a sinking ship. I wonder how long they can keep the "business" afloat.

Everyone remaining here with us has the imperative to MAKE THIS WORTH IT. We can either continue to spend too much money, give shit away for free and thoughtlessly throw around money OR everyone can take a long hard look on their effect on the bottom line, their efficiency and their margin and do what they need to do to improve it. For some reason, no one focuses on it or coaches it but in the end our only responsibility is to make money. We don't have to lose the best parts of our culture here but we can't forget this is a business.

@GcXfu4f-pbc - you nailed it

Oh look, another corporate shitbag selling out a company to #H1B visa workers. Let me guess, only the Indians will remain at NetApp after this? Lick my left one.

Yeah, um, nothing like a stock buy back or a big layoff to prop up the stock price. Investors love it when expenses are cut ... They don't care where, when , and how. So looking at the stock performance on any one day doesn't tell you squat.

Well... something serious needs to be done and from what I can see NTAP leadership are doing the right things - stock is up 2.6% already - market seems to agree.

Georgens and Noviello were a good start. Alot more executives need to go to right the ship. Cutting the Support Center is just plain stupid. They are the first contact for your customers and essential in establishing rapport and a good information. Hello this is Mike let me read this script and piss you off is not good customer support. They "save" $10 million but lose $5 million in severance packages, another $2 million in startup costs to get India up and going and another $25-50 million at least in unmeasurable lost business due to dissatisfied customers. Their Executives get a huge amount of money to make these horrible decisions and look what they have done to the stock http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=NTAP+Interactive#{"range":"5y","allowChartStacking":true}

I lived through the 2014 round - meaning I was released and survived. To say you never saw it coming or that this is a total shock would prove that you are blind, stupid, in denial or all of the above. It's business... did you seriously think for one second that NetApp truly found you to be irreplaceable? And this goes for all companies out there struggling to survive - especially those who have shareholders to answer to first and foremost.

To those affected:

Take a deep breath, tidy up your LinkedIn profiles and resumes and drive on. There IS life after NetApp.

Sincerely,

Someone who cares

They did this once before... outsourced support and it was horrible. Here it is again, they didn't learn from this mistake. The people that are not educated enough, who are making horrible decisions are indeed keeping their jobs because they are not paid a lot less. This is just terrible.

USA info: Termination date is Apr 30. Company pays COBRA thru June 30, if you elect for COBRA. Think its 1.5 wks per year for severence.

Waiting nearly two weeks between layoff announcement and notification show neither dignity nor care.

Almost immediately after this email went out, my manager scheduled one on one appointments with us all. He is booked all day.

This was sent at 4:58am PST (8:58 am EST). Kudos to the Hunger Games poster.
