Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

DWEP HAS TOO MANY REDUNDANT POSITION, THEY NEED TO LAYOFF SOME PEOPLE

DWEP has too many SUBSEA INTERVENTION ENGINEERS and not enough work to go around. Some of those positions need to be eliminated. Also, there are too many DRILLING ENGINEERS and not enough work to go around. Chevron needs to layoff some people in DWEP, there is redundancy, and it is costing the company money.

Maybe if the customers that DWEP IT has to spoonfeed weren't babies that can't even use computers there wouldn't be a need for 500 personnel.

DWEP IT - major overhaul needed. 500 people to navigate through the politics to do the job that 10 people can do - if allowed to do their jobs!

For offshore wells, add in the massive new layers of BESE regulations that increased the paperwork required for each well being drilled.

I would agree some of the intervention teams are way to big. Take Tahiti for example 8 years ago when I came to DWEP as an FDE there was 3 team members on Tahiti to run one rig. Now they have 7 to do the same amount of work. A lot of this goes down to empire building and a lot comes down to technically inept TL who can not make a decision as they don't know what decision to make. The TL then hires consultants to tell them what the problem is and solve that problem as well. The consultants then come up with new problems they have to solve so that they can keep there job.

there is a difference in "covering' a land rig and a deepwater drillship. same thing goes for planning and executing a well

@2qvh - if you have 2 guys covering 12 rigs, then the only thing they are doing is checking the rig move route and signing vendor tickets in exchange. Overpaid midland TAs.

@1zfv In our BU we have two people covering up to 12 rigs that DWEP has covering 2 rigs. DWEP needs to be culled big time, in the right places.

Hey 1zfv, what do you mean there's way more Cheifs than Indians? Just take a stroll down to the IT Department. You'll see there's way too many Indians (and Asians) than Cheifs.

How many DWEP engineers do you think it takes to plan and drill a well? One or two are assigned to plan. One is ops. Add in slivers of FTE for management and SMEs and Wellsafe and you probably have less than a dozen. For ~100-200MM scope. How many people does PRC need for a similar scope of work?

DWEP isn't overstaffed in engineers per well. It might have too many teams and not enough projects, but that is a more of a strategic problem.

There also may be way more Chiefs than Indians. But I don't think that is a DWEP drilling specific issue at CVX.

What I like about the deadwood poster is although he/she is a stupid dooshe troll, he really does a good job in exposing the Real Deadwood, who are the ones that get all worked up and reply negatively to his/her dumb comments, LOL! In this case the comment was the appropriate response to the idiot OP.
