Man I saw the employees with the most integrity get low rankings. It is bad bad bad. These cuts are so deep many of the Supers are done too. I never understood why Chevron would not hold employees accountable for stealing, hiring friends and fam under the radar, horrible behaviors. It only takes a few examples for people to get in line. If you ignore the this behavior you promote it. This shit is so over the top no one would believe it!

I totally agree with you, lex. Ranking should be the tabulation of your year-long merits and demerits; The sum of all your training, accomplishments, attendance record, project work, quality of work. Christ, I think I just explained what your ePMP is all about. Much good that had done for us, right?

The CVX ranking system is modeled after the old Soviet Union. The "party members" who have told their middle managers they will do anything they are told to do, dump production fluid into the gulf, or into remote ponds; keep their mouths shut about hiring relatives to employee or long-term contractor positions, making sure the manager is in on all the vendor perks.

The workers doing their jobs with normal views on what is right and wrong, get the 2- rankings.

The rankings should be standardized tests on competency, combined with on time delivery of projects and minimal sick time "vacations."

The last of the Mohicans left Chevron years ago, uzz. We are left with leaders in title only.

RQT - Good luck to you. Does your group support the "potentially" sold properties? I don't think anyone is safe or trustable either. Long gone are the leaders with integrity.

I concede your point, rqt. I was thinking only if the office and managemnt staff that I'm a part of. Thanks for bringing that up. The field is where the miney is made. It stands to reason we absolutely need to retain the very best talent.

XOT - Makes sense to some degree for office personnel and support staff but if referring to field personnel there isn't monetary benefit to cutting your 1-2+'s those guys are paid by title not years and rankings.

I'm with you @qgp, but if rankings are the standard we use to reward the best employees, would it stand to reason that when under pressure to cut x number from the payroll, that we would start first by cutting the lowest ranked employee first and all the ones rated "1" last? Usually it's the 1's and the 2+ employees that are among the highest paid. If Chevron is to cut costs, it's stands to reason for me that a good share of 1's and 2+ employees to be laid off too. The rules are changed in this kind of environment.

Rankings, shmankings. Who cares? All of you are children in the historical context of 1986-1987. Back then, over 500k people lost their jobs. You were ranked high last time and low this time. What happened? Every BU and department has orders to reduce staff by x number percent to reach a specified headcount. That is what has happened. Everyone cannot receive top rankings. Those who remain after this round of layoffs will be targets for the next round. It will happen. This downturn has not reached bottom. I know. I was a layoff statistic in 1986.

It'll get sticky if you have 1 & 2+ guys get screwed over this years ranking/lack of if this Cox sale goes south.

@geb makes a good point. Chevron will rank everyone, hell or high water. The ranking an individual within a group gets can be speculated on all day long, but bet your bottom Dollar they will get ranked. Everyone knows the ranking process at Chevron is fraught with subjectiveness and improvisation. The process is documented but not followed to the letter. Why do you think only management and HR do this in closed sessions?

I want to know what happens to those who didn't have their PMP this year due to the pending sale of properties.

So during ranking sessions if you are, getting canned it came up in sessions. If it came down to someone receiving a,2- and we're staying they got a,2.....person layed off got 2-. We,were told it should not matter but everyone ignored the direction.

Are fixed term guys more at risk than permanent if ranked similar? I guess fixed term there is no severance to be paid?

Absolutely not, I think they do it daily, they don't care but given the state of Chevron today, massive cutbacks and layoffs, they can't afford the exposure and liability that comes with termination of an employee who did not receive the due process so to speak that every other employee in their position had.

@xav, and you still think Chevron is beyond discriminatory practices. Please don't be so naive!

The guys in the group of properties in the pending sale haven't gone through the process this year with everyone else. Can't just slap a number up there because you need one. That would be discriminatory and lack of due process for those guys.

@bhq, Don't hold your breath believing a pending sale will hold up any employee's ranking. Everyone will be ranked to the liking or convenience of management.

What about those not ranked this year due to the pending Cox sale that hasn't happened yet?

Yes, I heard the same thing. The week of the 29th we should know who they consider the "deadwood", as they call it.
