ETC & Horizons

Its sounding more and more like ETC and Horizons will be a thing of the past by end of 2016.

Etc is going to play stupid until billable hours vanish and they are forced to make some hard calls.

BU's are being merged. They will be in name mainly with core functions for CNAEP out of Houston. I work in ETC and no one knows how we will fit in. BU's won't have budgets run from Canada, Covington, Pittsburgh, Bakersfield, Calgary. They will be set at Central function.

Etc doesn't really do r&d, it does fund projects which are all outsourced and mostly in the process of being cancelled. Etc needs to be a slimmed down sme house. Who h should only include people who are not mirrored in the business units, all others should be rolled into bus or just moved out.

Get rid of non-revenue generating departments and silly programs. Get down to brass tacks and make money. Gut all money wasting fluff. Learn on the job or by the seat if your pants. If you're not a quick study, you get booted. That's what we need.

At present, there is no budget for Horizons in 2016.

In the last big downturn of the 80's, every major except Exxon gutted their R&D departments. New DW projects are being jettisoned due to non-profitability. The next decade(s) is about lean factory-style production. No need for rocket science and no room for personnel not directly aligned with revenue-generating production. Sad but true.

Most ETC-types are unable to function in the real-world BU environment.

I still don't understand how etc and uc are not merged. Maybe to save the managers? The etc business model is a joke and is riddled with conflicts. Etc management's message is no layoffs planned this year, we all anticipate a change in this message in q3 though. Horizons needs to stay, but could certainly use some changes.

Doubt the Horizons program will go away. We have been told to have Horizons employees stick to their training schedules for "16.

Doubt it. There will be more demand for ETC help after deep cuts in the BUs.

I'm with @udd. They will both remain, just much smaller groups. The training with be eliminated and a mentoring program will be promoted.

They will remain but the training program (or whatever you cal lit) Horizons will be gone. It never existed in the first place. Class room was a joke and they gave the kids no field mentoring.
