Any truth in this rumor?

I believe in a few years, all hands on workers in GE, both production and field will be contractor based, it would end pension obligations quickly. Your paychecks and benefits will be from a different company when that happens. GE will become a company of nothing but management.
The IT guys should have joined the onion!

Kinda already being done in IT. Anyone who manages anything / supports something is a contractor. The GE employees in IT are either managers or "product owners" or analytics people to create pretty graphs of whatever data they can dredge out of the datalake.
What was announced today echoes what was done at Danaher. Remember their tools division, Matco? This is what was done to their engineers, and then eventually the corpse of the business was sold off. Coming now to a mega conglomerate with the two letter name.
It does appear they are going that way. Just today in Schenectady, Power announced 68 GE people were getting laid off and being offered jobs with Quest-Global, a contract company. It seems they are keeping a core set of managers and subject matter experts as GE employees and the rest they are moving to contract positions.
@12kYaGMZ-ilf...GE never had an outsider as CEO either, cant say that anymore can you!!
GE did it to the fieldcore people already!

Its already happening in Greenville
I heard this form is going to be turned into contractor only. The website admin has been looking into AI posting bots. You will all be replaced!
GE cant keep their IP safe now. Imagine how much would be lost if this were to happen. Not surprised though, Culp is determined to get his, and since he has no skin in the game, hes up for anything.
I actually would see this happening in Union shops first. Once that recall list is through it’s open game. Just think every time someone who is hired for a wage they agreed upon complains then the assignment is ended and next person up.
It will happen in non union shops the GE union shops stick together and fight the company for great wages, raises, and excellent healthcare and a pension plan that is unheard of these days. Look at what Imelt and Welch retired with? Look what the union shops have 1,2,3,4 and 5 different pay scale tiers. So contractors in non union shops I can see, but not in a union strong shop.
No. Never a model GE has ever adopted.
Depends on the function, scope and job duties. It’s all part of the anti-pension and benefits plan along with moving good jobs and employment from North America and Europe to Latin America, Asia and Africa.
In order for the executives to keep getting paid more, they have to find a way to cut at the core and at the bottom.
