Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Sales managers that do absolutely NOTHING

Anyone out there (specifically support and support leaders) tired of watching the sales managers and sales team lean against the counters on their phone gossiping and complaining while MTM’s, OAPMs and support team literally break their backs with setting directives, doing floor moves, and merchandising actions. I miss the days of a all hands on deck approach. If the company wants to drive business and save money I say cut these over paid sales managers that do nothing all day besides do a credit walk, and sit in the office pretending to read their email while they scroll through their Facebook. Most are even too lazy to get up to help when called and just give their override numbers over the phone.

The entitlement and complaining has got to go. With the fulfillment teams in full swing, they don’t even pick units anymore! We need to bring back department LEADS that actually own their business and get the job done.

Sincerely,
An overworked, unappreciated “ Colleague”

As a Sales associate I always said for years as well as my coworkers what does a sales manager do ? Cause it seems they do nothing. It’s like this. They don’t do anything get paid but spew nonsense to Store manager that they have the “ dream team” and everyone is great ! Meanwhile, hardly any sales , inventory piling up with lack of help , over worked underpaid associates, call outs, internal conflicts. Etc. then the store manager blows the smoke up corporates arse ! It’s all a The Delusion illusion ! I even told a sales manager what needed to be done and they told me “ they know how to run the dept and don’t need my input “. That same manager is no longer with the company. My advice. Let the associates rule the kingdom of the dying. You wanna cut cost. ? Fire the sack of potatoes known as the “ sales manager “

My Manager worked for decades sometimes double shifts to get the work done. Was always out there with us making it happen and doing whatever it took to help us. After my Manager suffered a work accident the thanks given was termination. This is the company we all work for people. Something is very wrong!!!!

As a vendor I can vouch that sales managers have gotten beyond pathetic. Completely useless, never on the floor, and I agree the stores that are like this it is a result from the top (Store Managers who allow it).

What happened to the daily reports that use to go to each register? They included sales, top sellers, etc.

Not my store. We are on the floor, side by side of our associates driving business. Down less than a dozen credits for the year and making plan

Thank you! To the person who made the comment about the store 703 doing poorly and not making plan. That means you work on our district and you have access to the stores plan. So that means that the store manager, sales managers and supervisors are lying to the associates or colleagues in the morning rally that we are making plan and doing good on our sales goals. So there's no longer trust in management in our store anymore like always. That's one of the problems in this store 703 trust issues. This been going on for years.

not in my store!! the sm's work pretty hard, especially baby sitting some of the employees that act like they are in 7th grade. the two people that commented with their store number, maybe your sm's should get out of the office and help drive sales. both stores, especially 703, are doing poorly and not making plan.

@12AlkavL-2cct "when I open a new account I give it to colleague ringing next to me."

Thanks for doing that. It disgusts me when I look at the star rewards report and I see managers who opened five accounts in one day.. It's like, really, you 're that petty? You need the macy money that bad that you'll compete with sales associates?

I feel bad for each of you that have a bad sales manager. Many of us out here are good and care about all of our people. I’m in the trenches everyday with them. I ring I do go backs I empty sensors and trash and when I open a new account I give it to colleague ringing next to me. I make sure they know our numbers and stats and how they impact that everyday. I am their biggest cheerleader and also have open feedback with them. I expect the same from them. I want to be a manager they respect and want to report too.
Don’t give all of us a bad name. For every bad manager there is at least one good one.

All these comments show a total failure of each of your store manager! Totally NOT the case in the store I am in.

ya know my first sales job the sales managers would go out and create huge contracts with local churches and such.. they put together big deals and pass them on the to sales team to put the sales together ... they also used to mail out biz cards to local biz to drum up new sales.. a sales manager at macys has nothing to do with "sales" all they are a glorified hostess for a failing biz.. you could replace every single manager in the store with a hostess from a restaurant.. ( the girl/gal that seats you) strip them of the title "sales" Manager ..and just have someone with a good personality to " help" customers... do away with calling a useless manager for a override or not sure what to do situation.. give the power to the people.. fire all sales managers.. do it do it now

You need to strike back during the annual myvoice survey.

We have a Fine Jewelry Lead who loves to spend time on her phone (social media) in her office for two hours at a time through out her shift. She does not help much at all. The jewelry bays are all a mess, and filthy too! When you have one person who does not help, it certainly has a negative effect. Inventory is going to be a nightmare. I wonder if our clueless Fine Jewelry Lead will sit in her office during inventory??

Those kinds of things happens in our store 703 all the time. Now that our store in Laredo, Texas is a Path to Growth stores, managers and supervisors spend most of time in the office actually doing nothing. The associates or colleagues moral is depressing, all of them are not even motivated to go to work. This kind of behaviors from the Sales managers and supervisors needs to stop. They treat their jobs like I'm above everything and you do it while I loaf. Those kinds of bad habits reflects poorly on the sales associates. 😟

In my store, the only thing they do is ask for the walk report when they come into the office, and then pore over it as though the shifts they left open will somehow magically fill themselves.

Wait managers actually work ? This must be a Phenomenon cause this happens in every store. Sales manager treat their job like I’m above everything and you do it while I loaf. Cut them completely and pay hard workers more !!
