Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Huge outgoing IST came through today.

Not sure what they’re planning, and not sure if anyone here has any insight, but most of the stores in our market were sent a huge spreadsheet of things to send to one store. It wasn’t accompanied by the usual communication that corporate sends out telling us to send stuff to closing stores to get rid of things we can’t sell. This is just one of those things. Anyone else hear about this? Anyone in any other market get one of these? We’re sending stuff to one of the biggest stores in our market....by Monday.

@ints. Wow! Somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed today. We also send IST's to non closing stores as well. By the way, the reason I have been in 3 different stores is because I have been promoted each time and am now an ASM. Take it easy.

It's basically a bunch of creative accounting to make the supposedly "go forward" stores look like they have better profitability by transferring low or negative margin merchandise (e.g., summer apparel, clearance/seasonal toys, very old merchandise) at full cost to closing stores. The transferring store gets to look like it never took the hit on the stuff, while the liquidator at the closing store gets to try to sell it at a slightly higher price for a little while. You may have noticed that liquidation markdowns tend to still be higher than what the sale prices for the items would have been on regular store events/clearances.

Fyi. I ACTUALLY GOT MY INFO DIRECT FROM MY MARKET LEADER. WE SEND THINGS OUT TO LIQUIDATING STORES. PRETTY BAD RECORD IF YOU'VE BEEN IN 3 DIFFERENT STORES.

@ccs. Same with us. Most of our Sears IST's go to other stores to get their store stock up over 98%. We recently did IST's to Torrance CA.

@uzd. I don't know where you got your information about IST's usually being sent to closing stores. IST's can be sent to any stores. I have worked in 3 Sears stores for years and have done numerous IST's. Only a very few times did the merchandise go to closing stores. The majority of the ones I have done have gone to big stores to help replace their inventory on a much quicker basis.

We got a BIG IST last week to send almost all our clearance, old, and slow moving items to the store in our district that is closing. Other stores in our district got the same IST's to send the same merchandise to the same closing store as well. Meanwhile, we are now getting two full trucks a week with new merchandise mostly from closing stores as well as holiday merchandise.

They are sending the IST’s to Penn Station and White Plains. They say to get the stores in stocks up over 98%.

Which store? Usually ISTs are sent to closing stores. Best product is always shipped to liquidating stores for a quick turn around. Merchandise that would usually sit on a shelf for months on end, VP sends to the closing store.
Please let us know which store ISTs are going to.

Maybe these are items the busy store won't have replenished in time through the normal supply chain.

Eddie has a bad habit of being secretive. Don't look for transparency at Transformco. One big reason to leave the company and search for an employer who does not hide under his desk at his Florida mansion.
