Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why doesn't Kmart regionalize?

Why doesn't Kmart regionalize instead of being so spread out? In other words, as that other dude posted before, they have like 13-14 states with 1 store each? Why not close those onesies, twosies, and focus on the regions that still have a bunch of stores and become a regional chain? For example, have a CA region, a FL region, etc..
Not seeing how having AZ, CO, DE, IL, MN, MT, NV, OR, TX, WA, WV, WI, WY with only 1 each is even feasible from a shipping standpoint with all these random, far-flung locations that they need to send trucks to. All of those 13 above states with 1 store each, require a truck to specailly just drive all the way to that 1 location.
If they focus on the regions where they have multiple stores, like CA for example, then the logistics of shipping would be far more Cost effective, than, for example, sending a truck to their 1 remaining store in Montana, which has no stores within 900 miles of it LOL! Just wondering what is the method of their madness of having 13 states with only 1 store each.

@huq Dude, you're preaching to the choir! (I'm the OP.) I KNOW Ed doesn't want to run those stores, so my question is, why doesn't he at least close those far-flung random stores now? Does he like to continue losing Money on them by keeping them open? BTW, I Know hardly anyone shops at Kmart. The one I have seen (Bismarck ND) is almost always empty. It's within walking distance of Wally, that's why. But that's my point exactly! Why does he keep these silly locations open? If Eddie wants out of retail, then, um, get out of retail. Or at least close these random locations in these small states.

@yer They can't sell mowers or grills in CA? I never heard of that. How do people cut their Grass?

Because Eddie NEVER had any desire to operate an ongoing retail venture. Where have you been? Nobody shops at Kmart or Sears. Nobody cares. PERIOD.

California ? Where you can't sell gas mowers, lawn tractors or grills! Most of the items we sell ,have not for sale in California written on carton.

Lease’s come into play. So does profit or if the store is company owned.

@avk OK, but are they not losing Money while waiting for the lease to expire? How Much does it Cost to send a truck to that random Montana location that has no stores within about 1000 miles of it, for example?

It's too late for all this discussion...there are so many things that could have been. Kmart is done, finished. Gone....and Sears is close behind.

Because there is no desire to invest in stores.

IDK there was the other person who said "well this state has x amount of stores, that's too many so really x need to close". This leads into what you're saying...at that point the economy of scale doesn't exist any longer. Makes no sense if they need to deliver merchandise to stores that are several hundred miles from one another.

The method of madness is simple. Keep the store open until the lease expires, then liquidate.
