Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Fragrance inventory?

Are we exiting the fragrance business? Sears.com lists a solid 8 options for men’s cologne from our inventory (not including 3rd party marketplace sellers) and when I went to a non-closing Kmart and the shelves were really bare in that department. I’m aware of the overall inventory issues, but this was never an issue even at the peak of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

@1ykf Because it affects the store’s performance... bad inventory = one less reason to go to a Sears or a Kmart. And that’s kind of a big department to just abandon

Fragrance is what drives traffic. Brands like Stetson, brute, high karate, old spice and other high end cologne brings in high end shoppers who then buy tools, books, shoes and more. No fragrance no traffic its retail 101. No one shops for anything without starting at the fragrance area first.

@1ykf One less department means yet another less reason to shop here which means more layoffs.

Who cares? What does this have to do with layoffs?

Chances are vendors have stopped shipment of merchandise due to non-payment of invoices. Vendors want prepayment before shipping merchandise to Eddie's stores. This could be a trend to all retailers with financial difficulties, including JCP.
