Stores in our area have moved the gun display,ammo, paint machine...into the auto section. So the auto sales floor person will do all 3 services. Sporting goods ,Hardware clerks floor associates were let go. 5 in our store.

@11cT22I2-pmn The new combined counter/registers will be by Tire Lube Express in the automotive department slightly inside the store from TLE. You'll pay 10 to 20 feet away from where you normally would pay in TLE.
So how do you pay when you get something done to your vehicle if there is no register? I assume there will be some way to pay without having to go to the front. Talk about pissing off the customers!
Actually, it's one counter/service area for TLE, sporting goods, and hardware/paint. It's manned by sporting good associates (need a special background check for gun sales). TLE loses it's register. Associates are not just fired. They are either able to move into the new role or given options to move elsewhere in the store. This has little to do with salaried managers. Hardware, sporting goods, and automotive DMs are hourly. There's still ACCM and hardlines ASM (both salaried ASMs). When stores do GWP for the entire store, there'll be team leaders, academy trainers, and GM will have a coach. People will either move up, move around, demote, or leave.
So it's like an old time hardware store again? Paint, guns, (ok well maybe not car stuff).
I feel T E R R I B L E for all long term Walmart employees! You're dealing with a crippling amount of stress. I've been gone a few years, but I remember only too well how that felt.
