Thread regarding Alliance Data Systems Corp. layoffs

October 2019 layoffs possible?

Does anyone have any information on possible Layoffs? Multiple people were told to cancel all meetings for this Wednesday. The quarterly earnings call is this Thursday. This can’t be a good sign....

Hey @3bgw - they were hitting all levels of performance, there was no orchestrated move to hit certain poor performer groups

I left in 2018. Were they focusing on laying off only poor performers or were they hitting all people equally? Just curious as if this is a purge to improve performance or if they really have business problems.

Good luck to all.

Best!

They need to turn losses into profits. It'll be hard with the shrinking pie. Also, they cut people and nobody ever managed to grow while cutting people.

All signs I see are bad.

@11DJJVpS-3wtc I don't think that anyone complaining less than 24 hours in is "dwelling" on anything.

I understand that there are some frustrated people on here who may or may not have lost their job, but also there are a LOT of uneducated people on here. Sometimes, companies need to do what they need to do to protect the masses. Having to layoff 300 people s—s, but it sure beats laying off 10,000 people. I am one that was let go, but I get it, because I understand how business works, unlike most people commenting on here. Move on people, it is part of life and happens at all major corporations. You can dwell on it, or grow from it.

@11DJJVpS-3jxi i'm sure it's easy for her to play their lacky and make all those cuts. She goes home to an obscene salary and bonuses, while the employees struggle to pay bills. Not her problem. She did her job.

If you look at their earnings report, their net loss for this quarter is close to $100M for this quarter and then they say their expense reduction program is going to generate $100M in incremental annualized savings. They just needed to balance the balance sheet. That's all. So sorry we were let go quickly and without any warning. It was really unprofessional.

They cut the bottom 5% in most cases.

I feel the pain all of you have with this latest ads action. There were about 150 of us who were so rudely let go on April 25th with the closing of ads Akron. No warning, just an email to go into "meeting" and gather together...."your services will no longer be needed". Pick up your instruction package, clean out your desks, and turn in your badge on the way out the door.

Charles Horn and Minicucci (board member) are doing all the cuts. Melisa is just a puppet and CEO by name only. Don’t be surprised when ADS gets bought sooner than later.

The higher you are, the harder you fall. MM's little corporate puppets will eventually have their time. They will be next.

I left there 3 years ago and from what I hear from my old co workers it hasn’t been the same place from what I left behind.

They grew too fast, didn’t pay close attention to their expenses and here we are, layoffs. We have been in a 11 year bull market and this is a credit card company essentially. What does this tell us?

Bad management from the top down. Stock price almost ⅓ of what it was 3 years ago. Seriously? How is a company in this line of business shed nearly 200 bucks off their stock price? I have my thoughts and after working there, I am somehow not shocked.

ADS reached a 52 week low, $115.00. Severs them right. Stock will be in the 90’s next summer.

one day I messed up and signed into the wrong dialer for 1 hour and every call ended in 30 seconds with a payment over 200. calls were back to back. pulled in over 6000 in that hour. everyone around me was down. no dialer. I was written up for this. But I learned at that time that Alliance had us all fooled. the people who don't rank in their system all have lawsuits, upper management doesn't, they signed their rights away on that note. that's why they are getting fired. they can't sue. also it give them a chance to change the culture and blame anything on old leadership and their buddy buddy culture.

Read their earnings report this morning. Front and center:

  • Enterprise-wide Expense Reduction Program Expected to Provide More Than $100 Million of Incremental Annualized Savings

Part of this are referring to layoffs I would imagine.

How many times can Alliance over hire to lay-off The senior leadership team is clueless. The clients are going to suffer. The people who are left there are going to suffer. How many times under Melissa’s leadership have there been layoffs? In Client Services world layoffs happens every year then Deb Decker hires people? How does HR and the shareholders let this happen.

Ever wonder how to tell if a customer has a suspicious activity report submitted on them? A SAR? Look in vcars, if you see "Forwarded to compliance for review", that's code for SAR submitted. Great confidentiality, right?

@11DJJVpS-3lic don't give credit where it's not due. His 'intelligence' had nothing to do with his departure. His golden handshake did. There is no one high up at this company that deserves emulation, or respect. It's run like a cult, pushing family values and transparency and morale, but no one has any value beyond a dollar sign.

Remember people, your salary is a subscription fee that a company pays for you to do work for them. That's all. Nothing more.

Ed is a very intelligent man, he left for a reason. We all should have started looking for a job when he jumped ship.

Is it any wonder? They're so focused on buying as many client portfolios as they can, that they make the sh–tiest deals. ADS cards have an awful amount of fraud on them. The $ amount is staggering frighteningly high. But hey, can't piss off companies like victoria's secret and burlington and meijer, we just absorb millions in fraud so we can have the prestige of representing those brands. And we let ourselves be pushed around by them, so of course the employees suffer. Easier to cut them than create a safer product.

Everyone needs to realize that they have been training their replacement the whole time they've been working with anyone from India. If you made it through this last cut, but you work with people from India, it is likely you will be fired soon too.

They are giving many (all?) of these jobs to the associates in Alliance Data's India entity. I'm surprised no one seems to know that/mention that. It's very upsetting to me. So many people in Card Services. And I have heard something that makes me think some associates are staying to train an Indian worker before they leave. I assume they are being forced to train them in order to get their severence package. I made this cut, but who knows how many more jobs will go to India. Mine's probably next.

I worked here for 4 years.

Earlier this year the director of my department was saying we would look very different by end of year.

A couple of my group me included were let go last month citing cut backs.

I have three family members that survived this round but I foresee more coming in the next months.

Alliance Data claims they are associate centric. The truth of the matter is, they do not care. Their customer is just an account number and dollar signs and their associates are disposable, replaceable a#'s. Melisa Miller seems to be a cutthroat, money hungry, corporate she-devil. To have the audacity to write a heart felt note referring to us as "family" while you give us the axe. Sorry MM, you bit off more than you could chew and you threw away humans to fix your mistake and continue your path of greed. No warning today. Just I'm out the door. I have been a loyal, hard working, motivating supervisor for years. No one is safe. You dodged a bullet today but maybe not next time. MM, I hope your company that you ruined crumbles and leaves you high and dry like you left your "family".

I’ve questioned whether this “lay off” was really a cover up? It’s never been expressed that we would be were struggling as a company to make it even close to a “business” need. I’m deeply saddened that we lost so many great leaders however there were some leaders that needed to sadly go because they were lazy and didn’t know the job they way they should. That’s the reason they couldn’t effectively coach us. Let’s hope this is the end of the lay offs.

@11DJJVpS-3mdf what more info could you want? in a nutshell, No. You job is not safe. Ever. It's even less safe at a company like ADS that will juggle their employee numbers to offset loss and boost profit.

They bought the companies credit portfolio and kept 100-150 of us. My position with my old company was significantly more involved. As a “Lead” I took a paycut of about $16k mainly because of bonuses. I had 6 year tenure and was financially ready to buy a house in January for my baby girl born late March. I was off 3 weeks, came back and worked for a week. 10AM rolls around and they told everyone off the phones , and get out of the office. Everyone out. I had 6 year tenure but it’s not that easy to find a job making the same type of money and I based my home buying decision on my savings and continuing to work there. It’s been a great 6 months (sarcasm).

Push for charity donations for weeks, raise a ton of money to use as a tax break, push all the surveys to get them done (best places to work, best place for women to work), and then dump 300 people. Employees are nothing but numbers. It's foolish to think it's anything but that.

a lot of fat (i.e. meaningless titles, multiple sups in one department) and problematic associates were also cut today. a lot were too scared to make decisions and in the way. i do feel bad for them but i don't think it was a totally unjust layoff wave...

There have been approximately 300 layoffs. Managers, ccis department, maintenance workers, supervisors. This is so sad. To anyone laid off I am so sorry this company did this. We all thought we worked for a good place and it’s more clear everyday we don’t...
