Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

It's the DMs who are getting shafted

It doesn't seem like there's an elimination of ASMs, but increased pay and responsibilities for the ones who make the cut. (Like mini co managers almost) It's the DMs who are getting shafted. Most of them are one man bands at my location. Only the largest departments have any sales associates. The DM does it all.

I have to say that @117nvWTo-1ppa is 100% on point.

I’m a DM with over 22 years with one on the biggest areas in the store, without any sale clerks help. I’m over sporting goods, automotive, hardware, paints, and crafts!!! I don’t get no help from other DMS if I don’t asked. My Assistant Manager is young and only been with Wal-Mart 2 years!!! Really, don’t no nothing!!! I don’t understand this new scheduling system and ours customers is very upset without help in the evenings or when I’m off!!! It’s a lot of bull, that they thinks I don’t needs any help!!!

asm s are going too. My job is gone at the start of the next fiscal year. The almighty dollar is more important to walmart than the associates. 10 plus year associate and i am gone without a kiss... I truly see walmart failing in the future. Associates make the store.

@1atn I make a deal with the associates, I'll run the register, mix the paint, sell the licenses but if there's a Karen that demands to speak to a manager or a code white I will hand them my badge and say "go on now, go deal with that management call since I'm the sales associate!" My store is busy enough for there to ALWAYS be a manager call somewhere. Most associates don't want anything to do with those calls from our rude customers we take so they normally go "Umm ok I'll mix the paint"

@2wig, YES, salarieds are supposed to know how to do every task. That's why even if you're over GM you still have to take cooking class, remember?

If it's your job to tell me how to do my job, shouldn't you at least KNOW HOW to do my job?

Hey @118Wi02n-1atn do you think that Larry Page and Sergey Brin go assemble Google Home devices, or even know how? Or that the President knows how to fly Air Force One? So what if an ASM can't mix paint. It's not their job to know how to perform every task in the store. And for @118Wi02n-pfg, it's all fun and games to cull salaried management; but after that's done who's left to cull? Hourlies... So keep wishing for things and they are going to come your way.

Question, who will decide what asm's & what dms will have the leader positions? We have some asms that need to go. If they aren't cutting it as an asm they will certainly not make it as a glorified dm.

ASM's can't mix paint or do fishing or hunting license because they don't know how I have seen them make customers wait till an associate was available to help

I agree totally we work by ourselves everyday without any associates and the weekends, that this new scheduling was supposed to help has made it worse. Its like the store shuts down on the weekends when you need the help worse !!

When I was still there four years ago, my DM over produce stepped down to a dairy stocker after fifteen years of running his area. And he wasn't some lump of dead weight management had personally liked anmd been carrying over the years (although we've seen that happen); he was good enough that several store managers had tried hard to get him into the Assistant Program.

But he was content staying where he was at.

Unfortunately, around 2015 pressures began mounting so fiercely and unrelentingly, especially in the fresh areas, that they took their toll on him. He knew the final straw had happened when, one night at home, he flipped out and yelled at his little boy bad enough to send the child into hysterics....such that he had to be sedated at the local hospital. Right now this guy is still in dairy, but struggling even with that job as hours are being cut razor thin.

  • . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Meanwhile, I currently have a friend who had been an assistant, who himself had stepped down to be a DM, and is right now dealing with the whole re structuring debacle. It's everything the OP of this thread described. My friend is on a weekly basis shouldering more and more duties and responsibilities, with no staff to even help him —but with store management constantly up his a$$ like a procto scope, ceaselessly demanding 'Why isn't THIS done? And THIS? And THIS? And THIS? And...'

Walmart has become a cesspool of endless greed, bullying domination and absolutely zero compassion for fellow human beings.
