Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

The most important part of Lowe’s.

I have been with the company 15 years, I remember a training sometime around 2007 where we were told “The most important part to any Lowe’s is you”. It’s sad to see how far it has fallen. In 2012 when spiffs were taken away we were given a 2 day notice, on Thursday we were told that as of Saturday we would no longer be paid spiffs. I had to change my entire life in 2 days. I lost almost 40% of my income at that moment. Then LEF started a month later and it seems that was the point if all started changing. I have seen lots of positions cut, lots of friends lose their jobs which in turn affected their family life, some couldn’t take it and are no longer with us and some had to give up their marriage because of stress.

About a month ago I started filling out applications for jobs outside the company for the first time since I was 23 years old, I am now 38. I loved this company gave blood, sweat and tears for this company. While I still have a job I have been given an opportunity at another place and think these last cuts was it for me and the timing couldn’t be more perfect for the offer I was given.

I was offered a job at Cintas, we’re I will work 4 days a week have all major holidays off and get every weekend off, I had to give up $2/hr for an entry level spot there. I am a manager at Lowe’s now. There are other jobs out there, you have to have dedication and patience to find what’s best for you. I wish you all the best. The worst part of it is leaving behind my associates that work under me. They have become not only coworkers and friends but family to me. I would give the world to them if I could.

Yes I talked to a vendor for Whirlpool and they told me Lowe's still gets that money. They just keep it. I too had to make major changes in my life after the loss of SPIFFS. I didn't make as much in my store as others but still was over $400 a paycheck. Which means I lost $400 a paycheck. That's a lot of money to lose and no time to adjust. Lowe's was trying to get out of the "ME" mentality and change to "WE". Basically liberal thinking. This was the beginning of the end. I lasted another 6 years before I was dumb enough to take a department manager job after they said I would no longer get yearly raises because I was maxed as a specialist. Huge mistake. I still got a free knee replacement and used up my 320 sick hours I racked up before I left. Company just keeps finding new ways to screw with the employees and keep them worried about what's next because there is always something next..

The worst part is that, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Lowe's still receives those payouts. They just keep the money for themselves now, after paying out allowances I guess. That's a real slap in the face.

I can relate to your post. I did the same thing two years ago after working for the company for over 20 years. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.

I do get a spiff allowance, but it’s half of the commission I made from the previous year. I was making $11.75/hr and bringing in $60k-$70k/yr after spiffs. When spiffs went away I got an allowance of $600 per paycheck. Yeah it’s nice that I got that, it was nice that I still had a job, but that’s a huge impact on ones life in 2 days.

You lost 40% at once when commissions went away? Didn't they give out so called allowances after that? You should have gotten something as a result.
