Cisco Has Managers holding 10yrss/15years in same position. Why fire engineers/TLs who are experts? LR MGMT first.

I hesitate to call TLs experts. They grow to the title based on expertise, but often become lethargic, project resources who could be replaced by any number of less expensive options. TLs lack direct accountability for any KPIs and Cisco would serve itself and its customers better to move TLs back into roles where they can be the technical escalation/BU watchdogs with measurable impact. Of course there are exceptions, but they are getting harder to find.

Simple, at the manager level, it’s easy to hold stay in this position as long as you are good buddies with someone higher up and willing to be a cheerleader.
