With Techwire watching, each posting of bad news and negative opinion here weighs on this Wall Street debutante. The race between press and IPO is on. The IPO can’t come soon enough.

" i guess the real IPO play is whether JG tires of him before or after the IPO"
I'm surprised the BH is still around. Thought he was well-past is "Best by" date.
BH is an a-s. he’ll say anything he thinks JG wants to hear. he didnt have the decency to stick up for his golden boys RS and BL so his cavalier treatment of the testing folks is not un expected. i guess the real IPO play is whether JG tires of him before or after the IPO
Ah. Emotional catharsis. The same reason the freak show exists: to make "normal" people feel better about themselves. "There but for the grace of God go I", and all that.
I come here to correct the record, like when BH claimed that the people laid off in August were targeted not because they were 25+ year veterans of SAS with commensurate salary and benefits, but because they hadn't completed the training the newly "retired" director of DevOps R&D cobbled together from CloudAcademy content. That's also what people at SAS are saying, but it can't be discussed openly because to do that is to invite scrutiny, and to invite scrutiny is to find yourself on a list, and then you're one layoff away from being unemployed.
“I don't disbelieve you have one so sure, in your opinion, yes that is true. But if the signal to noise ration here is so low, why are you here?”
Well I initially came here because I care about SAS and the people that work there. I then came back in the hopes that a site called thelayoff.com would have good information about potential layoffs.
Now I just come here for the same reason I use Twitter/X. Or the same reason some folks watch soap operas or Jerry Springer.
There are individuals posting here who spent decades working in various areas at SAS and have a legitimate insider’s perspective. We understand the relevant motivations, inner-workings, complex relational dynamics, historical factors/failings, etc. leading to SAS’ current state.
Acknowledging it’s only my perspective, I post truthfully to balance extremes or clearly BS posts. I’ve observed others doing similarly here on TheLayoff@SAS for well over a year now..
“…SAS9 renewals were dressed up as Viya sales through dodgy contracts that hid the truth.”
That’s a great example of information that a reporter could not publish, because it’s not verified.
I totally believe it, though.
"Maybe 20% of responses have some merit.
The rest are uninformed guesses, biased rants, biased lovefests or pure BS."
I don't disbelieve you have one so sure, in your opinion, yes that is true. But if the signal to noise ration here is so low, why are you here?
The truth lies in the financial records that SAS has spent no less than two and a half years trying to get in order.
Why is it taking such a long time? Because the truth is just too unpalatable.
Perhaps they don't want to reveal the inconvenient truth that they invested billions on Viya but it's a product that nobody wants, is not selling, and has become the greatest loss making product in SAS's history.
Those of us who were in sales, knew that inconvenient truth over 5 years ago, and things have only got worse since then. We also know that SAS9 renewals were dressed up as Viya sales through dodgy contracts that hid the truth.
That house of cards will come tumbling down as soon as any prospective buyer does their due diligence and audits some of SAS's flagship "Viya customers".
Assuming you work or have worked at SAS for a number of years, and didn't just spend your time drinking the Kool-Aid, you must realise that the key discussion threads here that relate to SAS's ability to survive, are full of truthful and well thought out analysis. Such as:
- SAS's declining ability to compete in the analytics market
- It's inability to attract and retain talent
- The flawed product strategy in relation to Viya
- The countless examples of bad decision making at the most strategic levels
It all adds up, and paints a picture of an organisation facing a precipitous and accelerating decline. And whether it's an IPO, a private sale, or something else, a day of reckoning will come before long.
When that day comes, it's not unreasonable to imagine over half the workforce being made redundant. I feel sorry for the poor souls who get caught out, not seeing that it is coming.

I agree there is some insightful and accurate information. I wouldn’t say there is a lot.
Maybe 20% of responses have some merit.
The rest are uninformed guesses, biased rants, biased lovefests or pure BS.
But anyone who doesn’t really know the difference has no way of determining which is which.
I’m sure this platform is well known. That doesn’t mean people should use it as an authoritative source of truth.
The internet is full of well known platforms that no one in their right mind should use to shape their world views. And yet they do.
We don’t even know how many unique people post here. Could be 10 people.
How many of them actually work or worked at SAS?
Amongst the speculation and gossip, there is a lot of very accurate and insightful analysis of both the current state and history of SAS on this website.
Don't underestimate the power of this platform. Despite it's primitive look, it's very well known.
@zyz+1rziQM6B I’ll wager I have just as many years as the most elder of statesmen on here. But I also know that most of my opinions are just that.
I give folks who are matter of fact more credence than any post which is laced with bitterness or whining.
When it comes to many of the topics on here there are probably a handful of people at SAS that actually know the what’s and why’s. I doubt those people are posting here.
And at the end of the day you can trust nothing from anonymous posts.
“Anybody who puts any stock in the whiny non informed opinions on this site is not terribly bright.”
Of course - the fact that many of us have years of experience with this company means nothing, right?
@poh+1rziQM6B Was spot on if he/she had left the white dude part off.
Anybody who puts any stock in the whiny non informed opinions on this site is not terribly bright.
"out comes the race card"
Yeah, man. Didn't he learn "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?"
out comes the race card
- IPO isn't happening
- No one besides wral gives a flip about this site. It's all unverified gossip from people or a bunch of whiny people complaining about how hard it is to be a white dude.
As stated in another thread, “IPO lol”.
Once they clean up the books SAS will be sold. Then the REAL layoffs begin.
