Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Wanting people to leave

Although I personally have not experienced anything that would make me think that XOM wants me to leave voluntarily, it seems to me that a lot of you have?
In what situations did you most feel that you were not wanted here?

I just couldn't stand being treated like a child when told to come back into the office. I would have stayed at the lower pay had they at least were able to have a grown up discussion. Some mental mid-et strategy was at play to try and get me to stay at which point is all too late.

I imagine the bad sls are reading these post documenting everything for new ideas on how to mess with someone.

Boss volunteered to do Dh work then threatened me an admin with my job if I didn’t t do it for her. Then turned around and took credit for my work. She was doing his work and he was ok with it because he either didn’t know better or was totally ignorant then she put all his work on me. I was so glad to get away from her. Everyone that’s had any time in her groups has count downs until she leaves.

Being lied to

There’s some evil folks in sls positions that don’t belong there. When I first came to Exxon I was very impressed with the integrity of the managers. Now it’s a frick fest full of ignorant azzes

A month into my assignment, manager told me that I’m not competitive with my rank group. Wow, I thought it was a bit early to make that declaration. Especially they gave me a sh*t assignment where I had no former training and I refused to kiss *a-s. Manager wouldn’t allow me to me to take free training when it was offered. (I took training anyway on my own time so I can be competent.). Then when I made the best of it and was doing well, she yanked it out from under me. Colluded with another manager to reassign it to junior engineers who knew less than me. Junior engineer told me he doesn’t have the skills. What a farce!

I got the he-l out because this place is corrupt and the people who are in control of careers are totally lacking in integrity.

My “manager” gave me an assignment driven from core that I had to complete then went behind my back to the department heads and told them that we shouldn’t do the projects she gave me to complete. A real piece of work. I won’t say I dislike her but if she was on fire, I don’t think I would run toward her if I had to p-e in order to put her out.

Was told in my first 1:1 when I moved into a new group by the new boss "I'm concerned about your ability to compete in this group." Yes, my first meeting. Never ranked below VG. He's spent a year gaslighting me.

I hope he gets it this year. If not this year then next.

Don't bring people in if that's how you are going to do business.

I knew EM wanted me to leave when (during a year of record $59 Billion profit) EM took my assigned cubicle away and made me hotdesk so they could abandon owned buildings.

My biggest clue was when bOSS wanted me to bend over...................and it wasn't just to pick up the litter strewn by the little piggies sitting near my hot desk!

My manager is offshore and he always reschedules and/or misses our 1:1's. In short, no communication.

I asked my Supervisor what was the status of my request to leave his group.

My Supervisor said that I should plan to be in his group for another year unless I formally threaten to quit.

I went to my Supervisor’s boss and asked if he was aware of my desire to leave the group and she said “Of course I am aware of you request to leave because your transfer is already approved”.

Apparently my Supervisor was trying to get me to threaten to quit even though he was fully aware that my transfer had been approved.

Lo----e Useless Freak that was intimidated because I knew 100 times more about our group’s work than he did.

@bsm That’s about reducing facility costs while keeping their juicy local tax subsidies.

Hot-desking by itself is an inefficient way to increase turnover or attrition. If EM put me in charge, I’d mandate a company-wide personality test, then nest the most incompatible people into “neighborhoods” and let the sparks fly. Just to turn up the heat a little more, I’d make sure there were two fewer chairs than required in each neighborhood, just to drive up the stress and force conflict at a primal level.

I could have headcount down by 50% in less than three months. The money saved on labor costs can be used to return value to the shareholders via buybacks. I bank my bonus, bail, and move on to another company.

@zpy No severance if you’re fired for performance either.

Did you sign a contract with EM saying that you’re guaranteed severance? If not, then you’re not getting it.

Waaay too many §hithouse lawyers on this board.

Without knowing how old you are, OP, I’d suggest give it time and you’ll receive the signs they want you to voluntarily leave. Or, maybe they don’t want you to leave, they just like to play a sick game where they demoralize you to the point you feel worthless and will be grateful for any scraps they flip to you. Most notably, that demoralization comes in the form of a bogus “review” when you might least expect it.

But what if….. all the people who received less than stellar reviews had the courage and confidence TO promptly leave? What a glorious time that would be!

If EM didn’t alter their forced rank system / “meritocracy” - all those shiny HiPos and OWDs would drop like bricks! 📉 🧱

I knew when my evil manager told me he/she didn’t want me here @ ExxonMobil and I wasn’t a culture fit. And he/she is the one who will help guide my career here at ExxonMobil and tell me what my potential is? A complete joke. No Emotional Intelligence. - We should start teaching these so called managers/leaders soft skills…

English-Portuguese dictionary given to only some members of my group. In 2019.
I clawed my way into another group, but all the others trained their own replacements before NSI came down.

Having printers with ample security (badge needed to print). Changing the system to something so complicated that I just stopped printing. I’m sure that saved a lot of money 🙄

Placing SLS with zero integrity into management positions. I’m not going to get into all the horrible things my sls did to me during her reign of te---r because it’s not productive and I believe that she will eventually have to deal with her actions but she is the absolute worst person I have ever met in my life. Selfish, ruthless person that is not mentally stable. .

Moving bar in the assessment process. Doing more each year in an aspect I was told I should improve on, only to be told for the first time in the assessment meeting that “other people in your CL are (still) doing more”.

Lazy assessment process because it’s easier for our managers. “Your regular work doesn’t count in relative assessments because you all do such a slam bang good job”. No we do not, you just don’t have the expertise to differentiate our work.

I also feel like I’m being gas lit. I’m seeing some peoples work being praised while when I do substantively the same work with the same impact, I’m told again “that’s just part of your regular job, you’re expected to do that”. Ummmm, why did they get Outstanding rankings for basically the same work then?!

Giving the good assignments to inexperienced a-s kissers instead of experienced people like myself, then skipping both me as the young a-s kissers to send cheap labor from India so can charge full price to partners.

Hotdesking with a surplus of office space just to abandon that office space. We are not worth the A/C costs.

They tell you to express your career aspirations and then come time for that discussion they told me none of that would ever happen for me. I was pip'd and told I was worthless. I got another manager and passed pip. Still here but trying to leave. The other thing is constantly taking our work and sending it to low cost countries. Then there is them taking away benefits. Etc etc

Career development. I told my manager my career interests and preferences for a while. They then put me in an unrelated role and told me it’s based on company need. I put my 2 weeks shortly after to join a company that matched what I wanted.

My manager and I weren’t on bad terms with each other but not buddy-buddy either so take that as you will.
