Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

How will we know when others are laid off?

How soon will related teams know that their partners are gone? How do we find out about friends that are let go? I've never been close to people impacted by layoffs and it just feels like it will be a total blur.

If you have powershell access just google for how to enumerate disabled AD accounts and you should find what you need.

You’ll probably receive updated org charts for orgs that have leaders that have been laid off with the new org structure, reorg of org structures, but not individual contributors (word of mouth).

Unless you pull an entire org structure report beginning at Walt before layoffs and then once they’re done to compare.

You won't know when other are layed off. Let me put it this way, it's like the cat in the box experiment. You don't know it was ki-led by radioactive decaying isotope, with 50-50 chance of ki-ling the cat, until you open the box and observe the cat. Until then, the cat is in a state of suspended animation, states super imposed on each other, both dead and alive. Schwab layoffs is governed by quantum mechanics. It's all a probability, and we don't know unless there is observer.

If someone doesn't come to a meeting or standup, my first thought is-- were they laid off? Such a bummer to be in this state.

When we lost members on our team we received goodbye letters and chat messages from them. Even if they don’t say anything, their name in Microsoft Teams will turn black shortly and after a while, be deleted from the system.

I think this site will see a lot of traffic when layoffs start in earnest. In 2019 and 2020 there had been a huge uptick in threads where people reported on how many people were laid off and where.

In the past there has been zero communication about who was impacted. Your best bet is to learn through word of mouth and your worst option is learning when you attempt to contact them and find out that person is no longer at Schwab.

Within your team/org, you will typically see goodbye and farewell emails from those impacted. Some folks will send a BCC note to everyone they have worked with in the past by looking at their email. Your team/org will probably give you an update on how many were impacted, once it's all over.

Once someone is gone, you they will remain in the Schweb for maybe couple of weeks or more. But you will find their title, contact details, number of years, etc. are all blank, except for their name. I believe their profile picture no longer shows up either.
